1. 중생하지 못한 자의 선행이 하나님의 명하신 선행일 수도 있음 / Works by Unregenerate Men May Be Commanded by God
Works done by unregenerate men,
중생하지 못한 사람들의 선행에 있어

although, for the matter of them,
선행 자체로만 보면

they may be things which God commands,
하나님께서 명한 선행일 수 있습니다.

and of good use both to themselves and others;
그리고 그들 자신과 다른 사람에게 유익이 될 수 있습니다.

 

2. 중생하지 못한 자의 선행이 하나님 앞에 합당하지 못한 이유 / Why the Works of the Unregenerate Are Not Acceptable to God
yet, because they proceed not from a heart purified by faith;
그러나 (그들의 선행이) 믿음으로 정결케 된 마음에서 나오지 않았기 때문에

nor are done in a right manner, according to the Word;
또한 말씀에 따라 올바른 방식으로 행해지지 않았습니다.

nor to a right end, the glory of God;
또한 올바른 목적, 곧 하나님의 영광을 위한 것도 아닙니다.

they are therefore sinful, and cannot please God,
그러므로 그 행위들은 죄로 가득하며 하나님을 기쁘시게 할 수 없습니다.

or make a man meet to receive grace from God.
또한 하나님의 은혜를 받을 만한 자격을 갖추게 하지 못합니다.

 

3. 중생하지 못한 자도 선행에 힘써야 하는 이유 / Why the Unregenerate Must Still Do Good Works
And yet, their neglect of them is more sinful
그럼에도 불구하고 선행을 게을리하는 것은 더욱 큰 죄입니다.

and displeasing unto God.
하나님을 노하게 하는 일입니다.
