1. General Revelation (자연계시)
Although the light of nature, and the works of creation and providence,
비록 본성의 빛과 창조와 섭리의 사역들이
do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom, and power of God,
하나님의 선하심과 지혜와 능력을 어느 정도 나타내고,
as to leave men inexcusable;
아무도 하나님을 모른다고 핑계할 수 없게 한다.
2. Limits of General Revelation (자연계시의 한계)
yet are they not sufficient to give that knowledge of God,
그러나 그것들만으로는 하나님에 대한 지식을 제공하기에 충분하지 않고,
and of His will, which is necessary unto salvation;
구원에 필요한 하나님의 뜻을 알게 하기에 충분하지 않다.
3. Historical Provision of Special Revelation (특별계시의 역사적 제공)
therefore it pleased the Lord,
그러므로 주님께서 기뻐하사,
at sundry times,
여러 시대에,
and in divers manners,
다양한 방식으로,
to reveal Himself,
자신을 계시하시고,
and to declare that His will unto His church;
교회에 자신의 뜻을 알리셨다.
4. Preservation of Truth in Writing (진리의 기록과 보존)
and afterwards for the better preserving and propagating of the truth,
그 후 진리를 더 잘 보존하고 전파하며,
and for the more sure establishment and comfort of the church against the corruption of the flesh, and the malice of Satan and of the world,
육신의 부패와 사탄, 세상의 악으로부터 교회를 더 굳게 세우고 위로하기 위해,
to commit the same wholly unto writing;
그 진리를 모두 기록하게 하셨다.
which maketh the holy Scripture to be most necessary;
이로 인해 성경은 가장 필요하게 되었다.
5. Cessation of Former Special Revelations (특별계시의 종결)
those former ways of God’s revealing His will unto His people being now ceased.
하나님께서 이전에 자신의 뜻을 사람들에게 계시하시던 방식은 이제 중단되었다.
