전쟁 앞에 드리는 우리의 무기, 기억
오늘 아침, 당신 앞에 어떤 전쟁이 있습니까?
꼭 전쟁이 아니어도 좋습니다. 해결되지 않은 관계, 답이 보이지 않는 일, 그냥 버텨야 하는 하루. 우리는 매일 아침 무언가를 앞에 두고 일어납니다. 그리고 본능적으로 묻습니다. "내게 무엇이 있는가?"
시편 20편은 출정을 앞둔 왕과 백성의 장면입니다. 눈앞에는 병거가 있고 말이 있습니다. 훈련된 군사력, 숫자로 셀 수 있는 자원들. 그것들은 실재합니다. 이 시는 그것을 부정하지 않습니다.
다만 이렇게 말합니다.
"어떤 자들은 병거를 신뢰하며 어떤 자들은 말을 신뢰하나 우리는 주 우리 하나님의 이름을 기억하리로다." — 시편 20:7
기억하리로다. 이 단어가 오늘의 핵심입니다.
여기서 "기억하리로다"로 번역된 히브리어는 자카르(zakar) 입니다.
자카르는 머릿속에 정보를 저장해 두는 것이 아닙니다. 창세기에서 "하나님이 노아를 기억하셨다(zakar)"고 할 때, 곧이어 물이 물러갔습니다. 히브리적 사고에서 기억은 언제나 행동으로 이어집니다. 자카르는 과거의 일을 현재로 불러들여, 지금의 자리에 세우는 것입니다.
그러므로 백성이 하나님의 이름을 자카르한다는 것은, 단순한 회상이 아닙니다. 이름은 그분의 성품이고, 성실하심이고, 언약입니다. 이름을 기억한다는 것은 그분이 어떤 분이신지를, 그분이 무엇을 행하셨는지를 — 지금 이 전쟁터로 불러 세우는 것입니다. 기억이 곧 무기가 됩니다.
이것이 단순한 "잊지 말자"는 다짐과 다른 이유입니다.
잊지 말자는 다짐은 내 의지에 기댑니다. 하지만 자카르는 방향이 다릅니다. 병거를 신뢰하는 사람은 지금 눈에 보이는 것을 셉니다. 자카르하는 사람은 먼저 역사를 돌아봅니다. 내 삶에서 가장 막혔던 그 순간, 그분이 어떻게 하셨는지를 — 지금 이 자리에 불러 세웁니다.
그리고, 그 위에 섭니다.
믿음은 없는 것을 만들어내는 힘이 아닙니다. 이미 있었던 하나님의 일을 현재로 불러오는 힘입니다.
오늘 아침, 딱 한 가지만 떠올려 보십시오.
하나님이 내 삶에서 일하셨던 단 한 순간. 우연이라고 넘겼지만 사실은 그분의 손이었던 그 순간. 그것을 지금 이 자리로 불러오십시오.
그것이 오늘의 기도입니다. 그것이 병거보다 강한 자리에 서는 방법입니다.
자카르. 기억이 무기가 되는 아침입니다.
"우리는 기억함으로, 일어나서 똑바로 서리로다." — 시편 20:8
Our Weapon Before the Battle — Memory
Call it a battle, if that word fits — the kind that looks like ordinary life. What is before you this morning?
An unresolved relationship, a situation with no answer in sight, a day you simply have to endure. Every morning we rise with something before us. And instinctively we ask, "What do I have?"
Psalm 20 opens on a scene: a king about to go to war, his people gathered around him. Before them stand chariots and horses. Trained military power, resources that can be counted. They are real. The psalm does not deny them.
But it says this:
"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." — Psalm 20:7, KJV
We will remember. That is the heart of today's reflection.
The Hebrew word translated "remember" here is zakar.
Zakar is not the storing of information in the mind. In Genesis, when it says "God remembered Noah (zakar)," the waters immediately began to recede. In Hebrew thought, remembering always moves toward action. Zakar is the act of bringing the past into the present and planting it here, in this moment.
So when the people zakar the name of God, it is not mere recollection. The name is his character, his faithfulness, his covenant. To remember the name is to bring who he is and what he has done — into this very battlefield. Memory becomes a weapon.
This is why zakar is different from simply resolving not to forget.
Resolving not to forget leans on our own will. But zakar moves in a different direction. Those who trust in chariots count what they can see right now. Those who zakar look first to history. The moment in their lives when the way was most completely blocked — and they call into the present how he moved then.
And they stand on that.
Faith is not the power to create something out of nothing. It is the power to bring what God has already done into the present.
This morning, recall just one thing.
A single moment when God was at work in your life. A moment you nearly called coincidence, but which was, in truth, his hand. Bring that moment into this place, right now.
That is today's prayer. That is how you stand in a place stronger than any chariot.
Zakar. This is the morning memory becomes a weapon.
