성소에 거하는 자의 10가지 삶의 고백
1. 나뉘지 않은 온전한 마음으로
"곧바르게 걷고..." (2절)
성경에서 '곧바르게(타밈, תָּמִים)'라는 말은 하나님께 드려지는 흠 없는 제물을 뜻할 때 사용되곤 합니다. 이는 우리가 완벽하다는 뜻이 아니라, 하나님 앞에서 겉과 속이 나뉘지 않은 '통합된 마음'으로 서 있음을 의미합니다. 하나님은 우리의 부분적인 모습이 아닌, 존재 전체가 그분을 향하기를 기다리십니다.
2. 관계 속에서 올바른 도리를 다하며
"...의를 행하며..." (2절)
여기서 말하는 '의(체데크, צֶדֶק)'는 거창한 정의감이 아니라 이웃과의 관계에서 마땅히 지켜야 할 '올바른 기준'을 뜻합니다. 하나님을 향한 진실한 마음이 이웃의 권리를 존중하고 책임감 있게 행동하는 구체적인 실천으로 나타나는 삶입니다.
3. 마음의 중심과 입술의 고백이 하나 되어
"...마음속으로 진리를 말하는 자," (2절)
진리라는 단어 안에는 '견고함'과 '신실함'의 의미가 담겨 있습니다. 자기 이익에 따라 말을 바꾸지 않고, 하나님 앞에서 내 마음의 중심과 입술의 고백이 어긋나지 않도록 자신을 정직하게 살피는 태도입니다.
4. 혀로 이웃의 허물을 전하지 않고
"혀로 헐뜯지 아니하며..." (3절)
'헐뜯다(라갈, רָגַל)'라는 말의 뿌리는 '발'이라는 뜻과 연결되어 있습니다. 발로 여기저기 돌아다니며 남의 이야기를 옮기고 공동체를 아프게 하지 않는 것입니다. 하나님 앞에 서는 자는 자신의 혀를 다스려 이웃의 명예를 소중히 여깁니다.
5. 가까운 이에게 해를 끼치지 않으며
"...자기 이웃에게 악을 행하지 아니하고..." (3절)
신앙의 진실함은 먼 곳의 구호가 아니라 가장 가까이 있는 이웃을 대하는 방식에서 증명됩니다. 곁에 있는 사람에게 실질적인 해를 입히지 않으려는 윤리적 결단이 곧 예배자의 자세입니다.
6. 이웃의 아픔과 비방을 옮기지 않으며
"...자기 이웃을 모욕하지 아니하며" (3절)
이웃에 대한 부정적인 평판이나 모욕적인 소문을 전하지 않는 것입니다. 관계 속에서 타인의 허물을 덮어주고, 공동체의 화평을 지키려는 배려 깊은 마음입니다.
7. 세상의 화려함보다 영적인 가치를 보며
"자기 눈으로 비열한 자를 멸시하되..." (4절)
'멸시하다(니브제, נִבְזֶה)'라는 표현은 상대를 무시하는 감정이 아니라, 가치 평가의 기준을 말합니다. 세상적으로 아무리 화려하고 힘이 있어도 하나님을 경시하는 삶이라면, 그것을 부러워하거나 내 삶의 기준으로 삼지 않겠다는 단호한 영적 안목입니다.
8. 하나님을 경외하는 자들을 귀하게 여기며
"...{주}를 두려워하는 자들을 존경하는 자," (4절)
누구를 귀하게 여기는지가 그 사람의 신앙을 말해줍니다. 하나님을 두려워하며 그 길을 걷는 사람들을 내 삶에서 가장 '무게감 있고 소중하게(예카베드, יְכัבֵּד)' 대접하는 마음입니다.
9. 손해를 보더라도 약속을 지키는 신실함으로
"...맹세한 것은 자기에게 해로울지라도 바꾸지 아니하는 자," (4절)
상황이 변했다고, 혹은 나에게 경제적인 손해가 발생한다고 해서 하나님과 이웃 앞에 한 약속을 쉽게 저버리지 않는 마음입니다. 내 이익보다 신뢰의 가치를 더 무겁게 여기는 십자가의 신실함입니다.
10. 이익보다 사람과 정의를 우선하며
"이자를 받으려고 자기 돈을 내주지 아니하며 죄 없는 자를 쳐서 대가를 받지 아니하는 자이오니..." (5절)
강자의 위치를 이용해 약자를 착취하거나, 돈 때문에 정의를 굽히지 않는 삶입니다. 물질에 지배받지 않고 하나님의 공의로운 통치를 받는 삶의 실제적인 모습입니다.
결론: 흔들리지 않는 인생의 약속
"...이런 일들을 행하는 자는 결코 흔들리지 아니하리이다." (5절)
이 삶의 고백들을 품고 살아가는 사람은 이미 하나님의 장막이라는 가장 견고한 기초 위에 거하고 있는 사람입니다. 세상이 요동치고 가치관이 붕괴되는 시대 속에서도, 하나님 안에 뿌리 내린 인생은 영원히 요동하지 않을 것입니다.

This Psalm is an Entrance Liturgy, a question-and-answer exchange between a worshiper and a priest at the gates of the Temple. God presents the fruit of one’s life, rather than religious rituals, as the requirement for entry. The ten indicators listed in verses 2 through 5 serve as the "Ten Commandments of Life" for those who desire to dwell in the presence of God.
"Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?" (Verse 1)
Ten Confessions of the Life Dwelling in the Sanctuary
1. With an Undivided and Whole Heart
"He that walketh uprightly..." (Verse 2)
In Scripture, 'uprightly' (Tamim, תָּמִים) is often used to describe a sacrificial offering without blemish. This does not mean we must be sinless or perfect, but rather that we stand before God with an 'integrated heart'—where the inner and outer selves are not divided. God waits for our whole being to be directed toward Him.
2. Acting with Righteousness in Relationships
"...and worketh righteousness..." (Verse 2)
The 'righteousness' (Tzedek, צֶדֶק) mentioned here is not an abstract sense of justice, but the 'right standard' to be kept in relationship with our neighbors. it is a life where a sincere heart toward God manifests in concrete actions that respect the rights of others and act with responsibility.
3. Unity of the Inner Heart and Outer Confession
"...and speaketh the truth in his heart." (Verse 2)
Within the word 'truth' (Emet, אֱמֶת) lies the meaning of firmness and faithfulness. It is an attitude of not changing one's words for personal gain and honestly examining oneself to ensure that the core of the heart aligns with the confession of the lips before God.
4. Not Spreading the Faults of Others
"He that backbiteth not with his tongue..." (Verse 3)
The root of the word 'backbite' (Ragal, רָגַל) is connected to the word for 'foot.' It vividly describes the act of going about on foot to spread rumors and hurt the community. One who stands before God governs their tongue to treasure the reputation of their neighbor.
5. Doing No Evil to Those Nearby
"...nor doeth evil to his neighbour..." (Verse 3)
The sincerity of faith is proven not by distant slogans, but by the way we treat the neighbors closest to us. An ethical commitment to do no actual harm to those around us is the very posture of a worshiper.
6. Not Carrying Reproach or Gossip
"...nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour." (Verse 3)
This means not passing on negative reputations or insulting rumors about one's neighbor. It is a considerate heart that covers the faults of others and seeks to protect the peace of the community.
7. Seeing Spiritual Value over Worldly Splendor
"In whose eyes a vile person is contemned..." (Verse 4)
The expression 'contemned' (Nibzeh, נִבְזֶה) refers to a standard of valuation rather than a feeling of contempt. It is a firm spiritual insight that refuses to envy or adopt the lifestyle of those who disregard God, regardless of how much worldly power or splendor they may possess.
8. Honoring Those Who Fear the Lord
"...but he honoureth them that fear the Lord." (Verse 4)
Whom we honor speaks volumes about our faith. It is an attitude of treating those who fear God and walk His path with the greatest 'weight and value' (Yekabbed, יְכַבֵּד), even if the world does not recognize them.
9. Faithfulness that Keeps Oaths Even at a Loss
"...He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not." (Verse 4)
This describes a heart that does not easily abandon promises made to God or neighbors just because circumstances change or economic loss occurs. It is the faithfulness of the cross, valuing the worth of trust over personal profit.
10. Prioritizing People and Justice over Profit
"He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent..." (Verse 5)
This is a life that refuses to exploit the weak from a position of power or bend justice for the sake of money. it is the practical reality of a life not ruled by material wealth but governed by God’s righteous reign.
Conclusion: The Promise of an Unshakable Life
"...He that doeth these things shall never be moved." (Verse 5)
A person who lives out these confessions of life is already dwelling upon the firmest foundation: the tabernacle of God. Even in an era where the world is shaken and values collapse, a life rooted in God will never be moved.
