거룩한 복종, 무식한 말을 잠잠케 하는 힘
1. ὑποτάσσω (휘포탓소) : 질서 아래에 나를 두다
베드로전서 2:13 "너희는 [주]를 위해 사람의 모든 규례에 복종하되..."
이 단어는 맹목적인 굴복이 아닙니다. '아래에(hypó)'와 '배치하다(tássō)'가 합쳐진 군대 용어로, 하나님이 세우신 창조의 질서를 인정하며 그 아래에 스스로를 정렬시키는 것을 의미합니다.
우리가 세상 법과 질서에 복종하는 이유는 국가가 완벽해서가 아닙니다. 바로 "[주]를 위해(for the Lord's sake)"입니다. 주님의 명예가 나그네인 나의 태도에 달려 있기 때문입니다.

그리스도인의 복종은 굴욕이 아니라, 주님을 위한 거룩한 선택입니다.
2. δι' αὐτοῦ πεμπομένοις (디 아우투 펨포메노이스) : 보냄을 받은 자들
베드로전서 2:14 "...그분께서 보내신 자들에게 하듯 하라."
베드로는 당시 그리스도인들을 박해하던 로마의 통치자들조차 '하나님께로부터 보냄을 받은 자들'의 관점으로 보라고 권면합니다. 권위자의 인격이 훌륭해서가 아니라, 그 직무를 허락하신 하나님의 주권을 신뢰하기 때문입니다.
악을 징벌하고 선을 장려하는 국가의 순기능을 인정하며, 나그네는 그 사회 안에서 가장 모범적인 시민이 되어야 합니다.

세상의 권위 뒤에 계신 하나님의 통치를 신뢰할 때, 우리는 비로소 자유로운 복종을 할 수 있습니다.
3. φιμόω (피모오) : 입을 막아 잠잠하게 함
베드로전서 2:15 "...너희가 잘 행함으로 어리석은 자들의 무식한 말을 잠잠하게 하려 함이라."
'잠잠하게 하다'는 뜻의 피모오(φιμόω)는 원래 '재갈을 물리다'는 뜻입니다. 억지로 말을 못 하게 힘으로 누르는 것이 아니라, 우리의 '잘 행함(Good doing)'이 너무나 명확하고 아름다워서 비방하는 자들이 스스로 부끄러워 입을 닫게 만드는 것입니다.
그리스도인에 대한 세상의 무식한 비방(무신론자, 반사회적 집단 등)을 이기는 유일한 방법은 말싸움이 아니라, 반박할 수 없는 '선한 삶'의 실력입니다.

우리의 정직한 복종과 선한 행실은, 하나님을 모르는 자들의 비방에 재갈을 물리는 가장 강력한 침묵의 메시지가 됩니다.

The Power to Silence Ignorance
1. ὑποτάσσω (hypotássō) : Placing Oneself Under God’s Order
1 Peter 2:13 "Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;"
This submission is not blind subservience. Derived from hypó ("under") and tássō ("to arrange"), it is a military term meaning to align oneself under the order established by God.
The reason we obey earthly laws and ordinances is not because the state is perfect, but "for the Lord's sake." The honor of our Lord is tied to the conduct of us, His pilgrims.

A Christian's submission is not an act of humiliation, but a holy choice made for the Lord.
2. δι' αὐτοῦ πεμπομένοις (di' autoú pempoménois) : Those Sent by Him
1 Peter 2:14 "Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well."
Peter exhorts us to view even the earthly rulers—who at the time were persecuting Christians—as those "sent by Him." We respect the office not necessarily because of the ruler's character, but because we trust the sovereignty of God who allowed that position.
By acknowledging the function of the state to punish evil and encourage good, a pilgrim must become the most exemplary citizen in society.

3. φιμόω (phimóō) : Putting to Silence by Muzzling
1 Peter 2:15 "For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:"
The word for "put to silence" is phimóō, which literally means "to muzzle." It is not about suppressing others by force, but about living such a clear and beautiful life of "well doing" that those who slander us are put to shame and find their own mouths muzzled.
The only way to overcome the ignorant slander of the world (accusing Christians of being anti-social or atheistic) is not through mere arguments, but through the irrefutable evidence of a "well doing" life.
