대언자의 탐구, 천사의 감탄 

 

서론:

우리는 지난 시간에 고난 중에도 "말할 수 없는 영광스러운 즐거움"으로 기뻐할 수 있음을 나누었습니다. 어떻게 이것이 가능할까요? 그것은 우리가 받은 구원이 가벼운 것이 아니기 때문입니다. 오늘 본문에서 베드로는 우리가 가진 이 구원이 얼마나 위대하고 역사적인 사건인지를 증명하기 위해 두 그룹의 증인을 법정(11절 증언)에 세웁니다. 바로 '과거의 대언자들'과 '하늘의 천사들'입니다. 이들을 통해 우리가 받은 은혜가 얼마나 놀라운 특권인지 함께 살펴보겠습니다.

 

본론

1. 선지자들의 치열한 탐구: 고난과 영광의 수수께끼 (10-11절)

베드로 사도는 구약의 선지자들이 이 구원을 대충 예언한 것이 아니라고 말합니다. 10절을 보십시오. "이 구원에 대하여는... 연구하고 부지런히 살펴서(enquired and searched diligently)." 여기서 베드로는 아주 강력한 두 개의 헬라어 동사를 사용합니다.

• '엑세제테오(ἐξεζήτησαν)': 탐정이 단서를 찾듯 '집요하게 추적했다'는 뜻입니다.

• '엑세라우나오(ἐξηρεύνησαν)': 광부가 금맥을 찾기 위해 땅속 깊은 곳까지 '파헤쳤다'는 뜻입니다.

그들은 무엇을 그토록 파헤쳤을까요? 바로 '그리스도의 고난'과 '후에 얻으실 영광'이었습니다. 이 두 가지는 인간의 머리로는 도저히 조화될 수 없는 모순처럼 보였기 때문입니다. 그 치열한 고민의 흔적을 보십시오.

• 이사야의 고민: 이사야는 성령의 감동으로 이사야 53장을 썼습니다. 거기서 메시아는 "찔리고 상하며 도수장으로 끌려가는 어린 양"처럼 처참하게 죽습니다(고난). 그런데 동시에 그는 "평강의 왕"이며 "그의 정사는 무궁할 것"이라고 선포합니다(영광). 이사야는 고민했을 것입니다. "도대체 이 메시아는 죽는 것인가, 왕이 되는 것인가? 이 일은 언제 일어나는가?"

• 다윗의 고민: 다윗 역시 시편 22편에서 "내 하나님이여 어찌 나를 버리셨나이까, 개들이 내 수족을 찔렀나이다"라고 십자가의 고통을 생생하게 묘사했습니다. 그러나 시편 110편에서는 "너는 내 오른쪽에 앉아 있으라"는 승리의 영광을 노래합니다. 다윗도 자신이 쓴 이 예언 속에서 고난과 영광의 수수께끼를 풀기 위해 밤을 지새우며 묵상했을 것입니다.

• 다니엘의 고민: 다니엘은 9장에서 "기름 부음을 받은 자가 끊어져 없어질 것"을 보았고, 7장에서는 "인자 같은 이가 영원한 권세를 받는 것"을 보았습니다.

그들은 이 '고난'과 '영광'이라는 두 퍼즐 조각을 맞추기 위해 인생을 바쳐 연구하고 추적했습니다.

 

2. 우리를 위한 섬김: 예언의 성취를 사는 성도 (12절 상반절)

"그들이 자기들을 위해 그것들을 수행하지 아니하고 우리를 위해 수행하였음이 그들에게 계시되었는데 ..." (12절)

대언자들이 그토록 연구한 끝에 깨달은 결론은 무엇입니까? 이 놀라운 구원의 드라마가 자기 시대(그때)가 아니라, 먼 훗날 '너희(우리)'를 위한 것임을 알게 되었습니다. 대언자들은 씨를 뿌렸지만, 열매는 우리가 먹고 있습니다. 그들은 멀리서 희미한 그림자만 보고도 환영했지만, 우리는 그 실체이신 예수 그리스도를 밝히 보고 만지고 소유하고 있습니다.

• 예수님은 말씀하셨습니다. "내가 너희에게 이르노니, 많은 대언자들과 왕들이 너희가 보는 그것들을 보고자 하였으나 보지 못하였고 너희가 듣는 그것들을 듣고자 하였으나 듣지 못하였느니라, 하시니라." (누가복음 10:24)

• 우리는 이사야도, 예레미야도, 다윗도 그토록 살고 싶어 했던 바로 그 **'은혜의 시대'**를 살고 있습니다. 성령님은 그들에게는 '예언'으로 임하셨지만, 우리에게는 '복음'으로 임하여 이 사실을 확증해 주십니다.

3. 천사들의 거룩한 호기심: 엎드려 들여다보는 신비 (12절 하반절)

"...천사들도 살펴보기를 갈망하는 것이니라."

우리가 받은 구원은 땅의 선지자들뿐만 아니라, 하늘의 천사들도 감탄하게 만듭니다. 여기서 '살펴보다'에 사용된 헬라어 '파라큅토(παρακύψαι)'는 아주 재미있는 단어입니다.

• '파라(곁에)' + '큅토(몸을 굽히다)'가 합쳐진 말로, *"호기심과 경이로움에 차서 허리를 푹 숙이고 자세히 들여다보는 동작"을 말합니다

천사들은 죄를 짓지 않았기에 구원이 필요 없고, 타락한 천사는 구원의 기회가 없습니다. 그래서 천사들은 '구원의 감격'을 모릅니다. 그런 천사들이 볼 때, 창조주 하나님이 벌레만도 못한 죄인을 위해 십자가에서 피 흘려 죽으시고, 그들을 자녀 삼으시는 이 '십자가의 사랑'은 충격 그 자체입니다. 그래서 천사들은 지금도 하늘 난간에 매달려, 목을 길게 빼고 허리를 굽혀 이 땅의 교회를, 그리고 구원받은 여러분을 경이로운 눈빛으로 관찰하고 있는 것입니다.

 

결론:

사랑하는 성도 여러분, 우리의 구원은 시시한 것이 아닙니다.

1. 구약의 위대한 대언자들이 광부처럼 파헤치고(엑세라우나오), 탐정처럼 추적하며(엑세제테오) 그토록 알기를 원했던 신비입니다.

2. 하늘의 천사들조차도 그 놀라운 사랑을 이해하고 싶어 허리를 굽혀(파라큅토) 부러워하며 쳐다보는 기적입니다.

대언자들이 우리를 위해 봉사했고, 천사들이 우리를 주목하고 있습니다. 우리가 바로 이 구원 역사의 주인공입니다. 삶이 힘들고 고난이 닥쳐와도 위축되지 마십시오. 여러분은 온 우주와 역사가 부러워하는 위대한 구원을 소유한 사람들입니다. 이 거룩한 자부심으로 오늘의 고난을 넉넉히 이기는 저와 여러분이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

 

 

 

Prophets' Quest, Angels' Wonder

Introduction Last time, we shared that we can rejoice with "joy unspeakable and full of glory" even amidst suffering. How is this possible? It is because the salvation we received is not a light matter. In today's text, to prove how great and historic this salvation is, Peter sets up two groups of witnesses in the court (testimony in verse 11). They are the 'prophets of old' and the 'angels of heaven.' Through them, let us examine what an amazing privilege the grace we have received is.

Body

1. The Prophets' Fierce Inquiry: The Riddle of Suffering and Glory (vv. 10-11) The Apostle Peter says that the Old Testament prophets did not prophesy this salvation casually. Look at verse 10. "Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently..." Here, Peter uses two powerful Greek verbs.

• 'Ekzēteō (ἐξεζήτησαν)': This means they 'sought out' or 'investigated incessantly' like a detective finding clues.

• 'Exeraunaō (ἐξηρεύνησαν)': This means they 'searched diligently' or 'dug deep' like a miner digging deep into the earth to find a vein of gold.

What did they dig for so intently? It was the 'sufferings of Christ' and the 'glory that should follow.' Because these two things seemed like a contradiction that could not be reconciled by human intellect. Look at the traces of their intense agony:

• Isaiah's Agony: Isaiah wrote Isaiah 53 under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. There, the Messiah dies miserably like a "lamb to the slaughter," being wounded and bruised (Suffering). Yet, at the same time, he proclaims Him as "The Prince of Peace" and that "of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end" (Glory). Isaiah must have pondered, "Is this Messiah dying, or is He becoming a King? When will this happen?"

• David's Agony: David also vividly described the pain of the cross in Psalm 22, saying, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" and "they pierced my hands and my feet." However, in Psalm 110, he sings of the glory of victory: "Sit thou at my right hand." David, too, would have stayed up all night meditating to solve the riddle of suffering and glory within his own prophecies.

• Daniel's Agony: Daniel saw in chapter 9 that "shall Messiah be cut off," and in chapter 7, he saw "one like the Son of man" receiving "everlasting dominion."

They dedicated their lives to researching and tracking these two puzzle pieces of 'Suffering' and 'Glory.'

2. Ministry for Us: Saints Living the Fulfillment of Prophecy (v. 12a)

"Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things..." (v. 12)

What was the conclusion the prophets reached after such research? They realized that this amazing drama of salvation was not for their own time, but for 'us' in the distant future. The prophets sowed the seeds, but we are eating the fruit. They welcomed it seeing only a dim shadow from afar, but we clearly see, touch, and possess the substance, Jesus Christ.

Jesus said:

"For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them." (Luke 10:24)

We are living in that very 'Age of Grace' that Isaiah, Jeremiah, and David wanted to live in so much. The Holy Spirit came to them as 'prophecy,' but He comes to us as 'Gospel' to confirm this fact.

3. The Holy Curiosity of Angels: The Mystery of Stooping Down to Look (v. 12b)

"...which things the angels desire to look into."

The salvation we received makes not only the prophets of the earth but also the angels of heaven marvel. The Greek word used here for 'look into' is 'Parakuptō (παρακύψαι),' which is a very interesting word.

• It is a combination of 'Para (beside)' + 'Kuptō (stoop),' meaning "the action of stooping down low and looking closely, filled with curiosity and wonder."

Angels do not need salvation because they have not sinned, and fallen angels have no opportunity for salvation. Therefore, angels do not know the 'emotion of salvation.' To such angels, the fact that the Creator God died shedding His blood for sinners who are less than worms, and adopts them as His children... this 'Love of the Cross' is shock itself. So, the angels are hanging over the balcony of heaven right now, stretching their necks and stooping down to observe the church on this earth, and you who are saved, with eyes of wonder.

Conclusion

Beloved saints, our salvation is not a trivial matter.

It is a mystery that the great prophets of the Old Testament wanted to know so much, digging like miners (Exeraunaō) and tracking like detectives (Ekzēteō). It is a miracle that even the angels of heaven want to understand, stooping down (Parakuptō) to look at with envy.

The prophets ministered for us, and the angels are watching us. We are the protagonists of this history of salvation. Even if life is hard and suffering comes, do not be withered. You are people who possess the great salvation that the whole universe and history envy. I bless you in the name of the Lord that you may abundantly overcome today's suffering with this holy pride.
