시편 119편 161-168절은 세상의 위협 속에서도 성도가 어떻게 흔들림 없는 믿음의 삶을 살아갈 수 있는지 보여주는 강력한 증언입니다. 시인은 통치자들의 부당한 핍박과 거짓된 세상 속에서도, 하나님의 말씀 안에서 견고함과 기쁨과 평안을 경험합니다.

1. 고난 속에서 지키는 견고함 (161, 163절)

믿음의 삶은 외부 환경에 좌우되지 않습니다. 시인은 “통치자들이 까닭 없이 나를 핍박하였으나”라고 고백하며, 고난이 부당하고 강력한 권력으로부터 왔음을 밝힙니다. 그러나 그의 마음은 세상의 권력에 굴복하지 않고, “주의 말씀의 두려움 가운데 서 있나이다”라는 경외심으로 굳건히 서 있습니다.
말씀을 경외하기에 그는 “거짓말은 미워하고 몹시 싫어”하며, 세상의 허위와 죄된 가치에 흔들리지 않습니다. 말씀에 대한 경외심은 그에게 핍박을 이기는 방패가 됩니다.

2. 고난을 압도하는 말씀의 기쁨 (162, 164절)

핍박과 미움 속에서도 시인의 영혼은 기쁨으로 충만합니다. 그는 말씀을 얻을 때의 기쁨을 “많은 노략물을 얻는 사람같이” 표현합니다. 말씀의 가치는 고난 속에서도 영혼을 일으키며, 절망에 머물지 않게 합니다.
이 기쁨은 그의 삶과 예배로 연결됩니다. 그는 “주의 의로운 판단들로 인하여 내가 하루에 일곱 번 주를 찬양하나이다”라고 고백하며, 고난 중에도 하나님의 공의와 섭리를 인정하며 쉬지 않고 찬양하는 삶을 살아갑니다.

3. 순종으로 얻는 흔들림 없는 평안 (165, 166-168절)

말씀 안에서 기쁨과 찬양의 삶을 사는 자는 세상이 줄 수 없는 "큰 평안"을 누립니다. “아무것도 그들을 실족하게 하지 못하리이다”라는 선언처럼, 하나님의 법을 사랑하고 순종하는 삶은 외부의 시련에도 흔들리지 않는 견고함을 줍니다.
시인은 단순히 사랑을 말로 표현하는 것이 아니라, “내가 주의 구원을 바라며 주의 명령들을 행하였나이다”라고 실천으로 보여줍니다. 모든 길이 하나님 앞에 있음을 의식하며, 말씀을 지극히 사랑하고 삶 속에서 지킴으로써 세상이 빼앗을 수 없는 평안과 안전을 누립니다.

• 지금 나를 힘들게 하거나 위협하는 ‘통치자’(환경, 사람, 불안 등)는 무엇인가요?

• 하나님의 말씀을 읽거나 들을 때, 시인처럼 **‘많은 노략물을 얻은 기쁨’**을 경험하고 있나요? 말씀을 세상의 그 무엇보다 값진 보화로 여기고 있나요?

• 고난이나 일상의 분주함 속에서도 ‘하루에 일곱 번’(쉬지 않고) 하나님을 찬양하고 예배하는 삶을 살고 있나요?

• 지금 내 삶에 "큰 평안"이 있나요? 만약 없다면, 주의 법을 사랑하고 순종하는 데 부족한 부분은 무엇인가요?

• “내 모든 길이 주 앞에 있으므로”라는 의식을 가지고 삶의 모든 영역에서 말씀을 지키려고 노력하고 있나요? 이런 삶이 내 삶에  어떤 영향을 주고 있나요? 

 

 

Psalm 119:161-168 is a powerful testimony demonstrating how a believer can live an unwavering life of faith even amidst the threats of the world. The Psalmist experiences stability, joy, and peace in God's Word, even in a world of unjust persecution by princes and pervasive falsehood.

1. Stability Maintained in Distress (Verses 161, 163)

The life of faith is not contingent upon external circumstances. The Psalmist confesses, "Princes have persecuted me without a cause," revealing that his affliction is unjust and stems from powerful authority. Yet, his heart does not yield to worldly power; instead, it "standeth in awe of thy word"—firmly rooted in reverence.

Because he stands in awe of the Word, he "hate[s] and abhor[s] lying," refusing to be swayed by the world's falsehood and sinful values. This reverence for the Word becomes his shield against persecution.

2. The Joy of the Word Overpowering Affliction (Verses 162, 164)

Even amidst persecution and hatred, the Psalmist’s soul is filled with joy. He expresses the delight of receiving the Word "as one that findeth great spoil." The value of the Word is such that it lifts the soul even in suffering, preventing despair.

This profound joy connects directly to his life of worship. He proclaims, "Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments." Even in suffering, he acknowledges God’s justice and providence, leading him to an unceasing life of praise.

3. Unshakable Peace Obtained Through Obedience (Verses 165, 166-168)

Those who live a life of joy and praise in the Word receive a "great peace" that the world cannot give. As declared, "nothing shall offend them," meaning that a life of loving and obeying God's Law grants an unyielding firmness against external trials.

The Psalmist demonstrates his love not just in words but in action, stating, "Lord, I have hoped for thy salvation: and done thy commandments." His hope for salvation is intrinsically linked to his practical obedience. Conscious that "all my ways are before thee," he "doth exceedingly love" the testimonies and keeps them throughout his life, thereby securing a peace and safety that the world cannot take away.
