예레미야 27장은 하나님께서 예레미야에게 멍에를 만들어 목에 걸고 여러 나라 사신들에게 보여라고 명령하신 장입니다.
이는 하나님께서 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살에게 세계 권세를 잠시 맡기셨음을 상징적으로 보여 주며, 그 권세 아래 순복하는 것이 살 길임을 나타냅니다.
남유다는 거짓 대언자들의 달콤한 메시지에 속아 바벨론 멍에를 거부하고, 주변 나라와 연합하여 바벨론에 대항하려 하였습니다.
그러나 하나님은 이를 멸망의 길이라고 경고하셨습니다.
2. 역사적·종교적 배경

여호야김 왕 때: 예레미야는 바벨론 왕의 멍에를 메라는 메시지를 받았습니다.

거짓 대언자

1) 하나님의 주권
“나는 내 큰 권능과 펼친 팔로 땅과 짐승과 사람을 만들었다.” (v.5)

세계사의 흐름은 하나님 주권 아래 있으며, 바벨론의 패권 또한 임의적 사건이 아닌 하나님이 맡기신 일시적 권세임을 알 수 있습니다.
2) 멍에(순복)의 상징
“바벨론 왕의 멍에 아래에 목을 두라. 그러면 살 것이다.” (v.12)

3) 참 대언자와 거짓 대언자의 구별

거짓 대언자는 민족 감정을 자극하며 달콤한 메시지만 전파하였습니다.

참 대언자 예레미야는 불인기했지만 하나님의 말씀을 그대로 전하였습니다.

중요한 것은 듣기 좋은가가 아니라 하나님으로부터 왔는가입니다.
4. 하나님이 우리를 바벨론으로 보내시는 이유
1) 생명의 길이기 때문
“멍에를 메어라. 그것이 너희가 살 길이다.”

우리의 눈에는 패배처럼 보여도, 하나님께는 생명으로 이어지는 길입니다.

용서는 굴욕처럼 보여도 생명을 주며, 내려놓음은 손해처럼 보여도 생명을 줍니다.

순종은 두렵지만 결국 생명을 줍니다.
2) 하나님의 음성을 분별하도록 훈련

사람은 달콤한 희망을 듣고 싶어합니다.

“곧 회복된다”, “포로로 가지 않는다.”

오늘 우리의 마음도 비슷합니다.

문제를 피하고 싶은 마음

책임을 미루고 싶은 마음

변화 없이 상황만 풀리길 바라는 마음

그때 우리는 육체의 소리와 성령의 소리 사이의 갈등을 경험합니다.
“내가 이르노니 너희는 성령을 좇아 행하라. 그리하면 육체의 욕심을 이루지 아니하리라.” (갈 5:16)
“육체의 욕망은 성령을 거스르고, 성령이 바라는 것은 육체를 거스르니, 이 둘이 서로 대적하여 너희가 원하는 것을 하지 못하게 한다.” (갈 5:17)

육체의 소리(거짓 희망)와 성령의 소리(하나님의 말씀)가 서로 충돌할 때, 우리는 멍에의 길을 선택해야 합니다.
3) 멍에를 통해 새롭게 빚으심

바벨론은 단순 심판지가 아니라 정결, 낮춤, 다시 세움의 학교입니다.

성숙은 항상 멍에의 과정 속에서 만들어집니다.
5. 적용: “각자의 바벨론의 길”
하나님은 오늘 우리 각자에게 순종해야 할 길을 주셨습니다.
육체는 거부하고, 자존심은 싫어하며, 상황은 손해처럼 보일 수 있습니다.
그러나 하나님은 말씀하십니다: “그 길이 네가 살 길이다.”
우리의 육체와 세상은 스스로 문제를 해결하려고 유혹합니다.
예루살렘에 사신을 보내 연합을 제시한 역사적 사건처럼, 우리도 ‘자기 방식’을 선택하고 싶은 마음이 생깁니다.
그러나 이 순간에 중요한 것은 하나님의 말씀입니다.
우리가 이해하지 못하더라도, 하나님께서 인도하시는 “바벨론의 길”로 나아가는 순종이 참된 생명의 길입니다.
우리의 이성과 거짓의 소리에 귀 기울이지 않고, 하나님의 인도를 경험하며 바벨론의 길을 걷는 것이 신앙의 성장을 이루는 길입니다.
1. Overview
Jeremiah chapter 27 records God’s command to Jeremiah: “Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck…”
This symbolic act reveals that God has entrusted worldly power temporarily to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and that submission under this yoke is the path of life, not resistance.
Judah, swayed by false prophets’ sweet promises, refused the yoke and allied with neighboring nations against Babylon.
But God warns: this is a path of destruction.
2. Historical & Religious Background

In the days of Jehoiakim, Jeremiah received God’s message to bear the yoke of Babylon.

Later, in the time of Zedekiah, Jeremiah repeated that same message—even as Judah attempted to resist and unite with other nations.
False Prophets proclaimed only hopeful promises:

“Babylon shall shortly be destroyed.”

“The temple vessels shall soon return.”
Yet the people believed them, choosing rebellion over God’s call to submit.

God governs the nations. Even in political upheaval, His sovereignty remains.

“And bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, and his people, and live.” (Jeremiah 27:12, KJV)
This yoke represents the painful call to submit, yet in such submission lies life, not ruin.

To Teach Us to Discern His Voice
Human nature leans toward the pleasant and the easy:

“We will be restored soon.”

“Everything will go back to the way it was.”
In that tension, we must distinguish between the voice of our flesh and the voice of the Spirit.
“Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16, KJV)
“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other …” (Galatians 5:17, KJV)
When we hear competing voices, God calls us to choose the yoke—to submit.

To Shape and Make Us New
Babylon is not just a place of judgment—it is God’s school for refining.
In hardship we learn:

Through that yoke, God molds us into maturity.
5. Application: “Each One’s Babylon Path”
God has given each of us a path of obedience today.
The flesh resists, pride objects, and circumstances may seem like a loss.
Yet God says, “This is the way; walk in it, and you will live.”
Our flesh and the world tempt us to solve problems on our own.
Just as in the historical event when envoys came to Jerusalem proposing an alliance, we too feel the desire to follow our own way.
But in this moment, what matters most is God’s Word.
Even when we do not fully understand, walking in obedience along the “Babylonian way” that God guides is the true path of life.
By not listening to our reason or the voice of falsehood, and instead experiencing God’s guidance, walking the Babylonian way is the path that brings spiritual growth.
