1. 하나님의 이름으로만 맹세하라
The name of God only is that by which men ought to swear.
하나님의 이름만 의지해서 맹세해야 합니다.
2. 맹세할 때 주의할 점
Things to observe when swearing an oath

거룩한 두려움으로 맹세하라
and therein it is to be used with all holy fear
(맹세는) 모든 거룩한 두려움으로 행해져야 합니다.

깊은 존경심으로 맹세하라
and reverence;
하나님에 대한 경외심을 가지고 맹세해야 합니다.

헛되게 맹세하지 말라
therefore, to swear vainly
자신의 말에 신뢰를 더하기 위해 하나님의 이름으로 맹세하는 것은 헛된 맹세입니다.

신중하게 생각한 후 맹세하라
or rashly by that glorious and dreadful name,
영광스럽고 두려운 이름으로 성급하게 맹세해서는 안 됩니다.

하나님의 이름으로만 맹세하라
or to swear at all by any other thing, is sinful, and to be abhorred.
그 어떤 다른 것으로 맹세하는 것은 죄이며 혐오스러운 행위입니다.
3. 합법적 맹세와 그 권위
Lawful oaths and their authority
Yet, as in matters of weight and moment,
그러나 중요한 문제에 있어서는
an oath is warranted by the Word of God, under the New Testament as well as under the Old;
맹세는 신구약 하나님의 말씀에 의해 보장됩니다.
so a lawful oath, being imposed by lawful authority, in such matters, ought to be taken.
이렇게 행해진 맹세는 합법적인 맹세이며, 합법적 권위를 갖습니다.
