예수님의 파격적 전도
1. 레위를 부르신 예수님 – 낙인찍힌 자를 향한 부르심
예수님은 세관에 앉아 있던 레위를 보셨습니다.
레위는 단순한 직업인이 아니었습니다. 당시 세리는 로마에 협력하며 동족에게 세금을 거두던 자, 곧 민족의 반역자로 불렸습니다. 사회적 멸시와 종교적 낙인이 가득한 자리였습니다. 그러나 예수님은 그 모든 것을 아시면서도, 바로 그 레위를 제자로 부르셨습니다.
세상은 버리고 멸시했지만, 예수님은 그를 귀히 여기셨습니다. 이것이 바로 예수님의 파격입니다.
2. 죄인들과 함께 잔치하신 예수님 – 경계선을 넘어선 사랑
레위는 예수님을 위해 큰 잔치를 베풀었습니다. 그 자리에는 세리와 죄인들, 창기들이 함께 있었습니다. 당시 사회는 그들을 하나님께서 멸시하는 자들이라 단정했습니다. 아무도 그들과 어울리려 하지 않았습니다. 그러나 예수님은 세상의 시선을 두려워하지 않고, 오히려 그들의 세계로 들어가셨습니다.
버림받은 자들의 집에 들어가고, 그들의 식탁에 함께 앉으신 예수님 — 이것이 예수님의 또 다른 파격이었습니다.
3. 죄인들을 변호하신 예수님 – 정죄가 아닌 보호
바리새인과 서기관들은 예수님을 비난했습니다. “어찌하여 세리와 죄인들과 함께 먹는가?” 그러나 예수님은 그들의 정죄에 맞서 오히려 죄인들을 변호하십니다. “건강한 자에게는 의사가 쓸데없고 병든 자에게라야 쓸데 있느니라. 나는 의인을 부르러 온 것이 아니요 죄인을 부르러 왔노라.”
아무도 죄인의 편에 서지 않던 시대, 예수님은 그들의 편에 서 주셨습니다. 이것이 예수님의 파격입니다.
적용: 나의 목회를 돌아보며
이 장면 앞에 선 저는 부끄럽습니다.
저는 먼저 다가가기보다, 먼저 어울리기보다, 먼저 거룩해지기를 원했습니다. 종교라는 이름으로 거리 두기를 택했습니다. 그러나 예수님은 레위에게 먼저 다가가셨고, 죄인들과 어울리셨고, 그들을 보호하셨습니다.
목회는 먼저 다가감입니다. 세상의 편견과 종교적 낙인보다 한 영혼을 귀히 여기는 것이 목회입니다. 저는 오늘 다시 제 목회를 돌아봅니다.
기도
하나님, 이제 제가 먼저 다가가게 하소서.
먼저 손을 내밀어 함께 어울리게 하소서.
연약함을 정죄하기보다 보호하고, 기도하는 목회자가 되게 하소서.
예수님의 파격을 닮아, 오늘도 한 영혼을 향해 나아가게 하소서.

The Radical Evangelism of Jesus
1. Jesus Calling Levi – A Man Despised
“And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.” (Mark 2:14, KJV)
Levi was a publican, counted as a traitor to his own people, despised of men, and condemned by religion. Yet Jesus, knowing his shame and reproach, called him to be His disciple. The world had cast him away, but Christ received him. Behold the radical grace of Jesus.
2. Jesus Sitting with Sinners – Crossing the Boundaries
“And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.” (Mark 2:15, KJV)
To sit and eat with sinners was a reproach in the eyes of men, for they were deemed unclean and forsaken. Yet Jesus feared not the judgment of men, but entered into their fellowship, even into their world. He crossed the boundary of shame that He might seek and save the lost. This also is the radical love of Jesus.
3. Jesus Defending Sinners – Not Condemnation but Mercy
“When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Mark 2:17, KJV)
The Pharisees and scribes stood ready to accuse, but none would defend the outcasts. Yet Jesus stood on their side, shielding them with His word, declaring that the sick have need of the physician. Thus He became their advocate and protector. This is the radical mercy of Jesus.
Application – A Mirror for My Ministry
Brethren, I am ashamed when I behold this scene. Too often I have desired to appear holy before I draw near; too often I have waited for others to come, rather than going forth first. But Jesus went first, He drew near, He sat with sinners, He defended the weak.
Ministry is to go first. Ministry is to stretch forth the hand, to sit at the table of the broken, to stand on the side of the despised. And thus I must ask: Do I go? Do I mingle? Do I defend?
Prayer
O Lord, grant unto me the spirit of my Master.
That I may go first, and not hold back.
That I may stretch forth my hand, and not withdraw it.
That I may protect the weak rather than condemn them.
Make me, O Lord, a shepherd after Thine own heart,
who standeth with the least of these, even as my Lord stood with Levi.
