1. 그리스도인의 자유: 서로를 세우기 위해 주심
And because the powers which God hath ordained, and the liberty which Christ hath purchased,
→ 하나님이 제정하시고 예수님께서 피로 값 주고 사신 자유와 권력은
are not intended by God to destroy,
→ 파괴하기 위해 주신 것이 아니라,
but mutually to uphold and preserve one another;
→ 서로를 세우고 서로를 지켜주기 위해 주신 것입니다.
2. 권력에 대한 도전은 하나님께 대한 도전
They who, upon pretence of Christian liberty,
→ 그리스도인의 자유를 핑계로
shall oppose any lawful power,
→ 합법적 권력이나
or the lawful exercise of it,
→ 그 합법적 권력의 행사에 반대하는 것은
whether it be civil or ecclesiastical,
→ 그것이 세속적 권력이든 교회적 권력이든
resist the ordinance of God.
→ 하나님이 제정하신 권력에 대한 저항이 됩니다.
3. 그리스도인의 자유의 오용: 질서에 대한 반함
And, for their publishing of such opinions,
→ 합법적 권력이나 그 권력의 행사에 반대하는 의견을 공표하거나
or maintaining of such practices,
→ 그러한 활동을 계속 유지한다면
-
as are contrary to the light of nature,
→ 자연의 질서에 반하는 것이고 -
or to the known principles of Christianity (whether concerning faith, worship, or conversation),
→ 기독교의 기본 원칙(믿음, 예배, 성도의 교제)에 반하며 -
or to the power of godliness;
→ 경건의 능력에도 반하는 것입니다.
4. 자유 오용의 결과: 평화와 질서 파괴
Or, such erroneous opinions or practices,
→ 이러한 잘못된 견해나 행위를 계속 유지하면
as either in their own nature,
→ 그 자체의 성질 때문에
or in the manner of publishing or maintaining them,
→ 또는 이를 공표하거나 유지하는 방식 때문에
are destructive to the external peace and order
→ 외적인 평화와 질서를 파괴하며
which Christ hath established in the Church.
→ 이러한 평화와 질서는 그리스도께서 교회 안에서 세우신 것입니다.
5. 자유 오용에 대한 교회적 책망과 권징
They may lawfully be called to account,
→ 자유를 오용한 자는 마땅히 책망 받아야 하며
and proceeded against, by the censures of the Church.
→ 교회의 합의에 따라 권징을 받아야 합니다.
