하나님이 내 삶의 왕이심을 거부하는 것, 이것이 바로 영적 반역입니다.
본론: 영적 쿠데타의 계획과 실행
1. 영적 쿠데타의 계획
하나님의 다스림 거부 (v8)
“그들이 순종하지도 아니하며 귀를 기울이지도 아니하고 저마다 자기의 악한 마음이 상상하는 대로 걸었으므로”
‘순종’의 히브리어 ‘샤마’(שָׁמַע)는 ‘듣다’, ‘경청하다’는 뜻입니다.
순종은 ‘듣고 반응하는 것’인데, 이들은 고의적으로 듣지 않기로 결정했습니다.
“자기 마음이 상상하는 대로 걸었다”는 것은 하나님의 뜻이 아닌 자기 판단과 욕망을 따라 삶의 방향을 정한 것입니다.
즉, 그들은 하나님을 왕으로 인정하지 않고 자기 자신이 왕이 되어 살아가려는 준비를 한 것입니다.
이것이 바로 영적 쿠데타의 계획입니다.
2. 영적 쿠데타의 모의
“유다 사람들과 예루살렘 주민들 가운데 반역하는 일이 있도다” (v9)
히브리어 ‘메레드’(מֶרֶד)는 ‘조직적이고, 은밀하며, 공모된 반역’을 의미합니다.

그러나 유다는 도시마다 다른 신들—자기 욕망의 대리물들을 섬겼습니다.
남유다의 주요 도시들은 대략 20~30여 개이며, 각 도시마다 농사, 어업, 가축 등 자신들의 생존과 번영을 위한 바알을 만들고 섬겼습니다.
바알은 가공의 신이며, 인간이 통제할 수 있는 거짓 신입니다.
이 우상 숭배가 바로 언약 파기이며, 하나님 왕권에 대한 반역입니다.

However, a spiritual coup is not an outward political rebellion, but a rebellion against God’s sovereign authority within one’s own heart—an act of dethroning God and declaring oneself the king of one’s own life.
Rejecting God as the King of our lives is spiritual rebellion.

Rejecting God’s Rule (Psalm 81:8)
"They would not hear, but hardened their necks, like their fathers, who did not believe in God."
The Hebrew word for obedience, shama (שָׁמַע), means “to hear” or “to listen attentively.”
Obedience is listening and responding, but these people deliberately chose not to listen.
“To walk according to their own counsel” means they followed their own judgment and desires rather than God’s will.
In other words, they refused to acknowledge God as King and prepared to live as kings over themselves.
This is the plan of the spiritual coup. -
Conspiring the Spiritual Coup (Jeremiah 11:9)
"There is a conspiracy among the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem."
The Hebrew word used here for “conspiracy” is mered (מֶרֶד), which emphasizes three points:

God is the Creator and Sovereign; man is the creature.
Human history is a continuous rebellion against God—an ongoing battle to be the master of one’s own life.
This is testified in Scripture and confirmed by history.
Application: How Can We Suppress the Spiritual Coup?
Our bodies are not yet fully redeemed (Romans 8:23).
“Body” here includes our conscience and intellect.
Within every believer, there is a spiritual battle between the desire to be the master of one’s own life and submitting to God’s sovereignty (Galatians 5:17).
Victory in this battle comes through walking in the Spirit.
We overcome the desires of the flesh by the help of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:5-6; Romans 8:13-14).
This is the only way to naturally suppress the spiritual coup—the fleshly desire to be king of one’s own life—and live under God’s reign.
