1. 공의화와 협의회의 권한

 

It belongeth to synods and councils, ministerially, 공의회와 협의회는

 

(1) 신학 논쟁 결정

to determine controversies of faith, 신학에 대한 논쟁과

(2) 양심의 문제 결정

and cases of conscience; 양심에 관한 문제들을 결정하고

 

(3) 규칙과 방향들을 정함 

to set down rules and directions for the better ordering of the public worship of God, and government of His church; 공예배와 교회 정치가 더 질서정연 하도록 규칙과 방향들을 정하며

 

(4) 불평접수

to receive complaints in cases of maladministration, 실책이 있는 경우에 불평들을 접수하며

 

and authoritatively to determine the same: which decrees and determinations, 그와 같은 것을 결정하는 권한을 가지고 있다.

 

2. 공의회와 협의회의 권위

 

if consonant to the Word of God, are to be received with reverence and submission, 만일 말씀에 가장 작은 부분(자음)까지 일치한다면) (공의회와 협의회의 결정에) 경외심과 순종으로 따라야 하는데

 

(1) 말씀에 일치하기 때문에

not only for their agreement with the Word, 이는 (그 결정이) 말씀에 일치되기 뿐만 아니라

 

(2) 말씀에서 정한 권한이기 때문에

but also for the power whereby they are made, as being an ordinance of God, appointed thereunto in His Word. 그 결정을 내린 권한, 즉 말씀에서 정해진 권한이기 대문에 그러하다. (이 정신이 역사적 장로교회의 신앙고백 정신이다.)(행15:15,19,24,27-31, 16:4; 마18:17-20).
