율법을 지킴이 주는 유익
Although true believers be not under the law as a covenant of works, 참 신자들은 행위 언약인 율법 아래에서
to be thereby justified or condemned; 의롭게 되거나 정죄함을 받는 것은 아니지만
yet is it of great use to them, as well as to others; 그러나 이 (행위 언약은) 성도들과 아직 구원받지 못한 자들 모두에게 유익한데
1. 생활의 규율
in that, as a rule of life, 하나의 생활의 규율로써
informing them of the will of God 그들에게 하나님의 뜻을 알려주고
and their duty, 그들이 (마땅히 행해야 할) 의무를 알려주며
it directs and binds them to walk 그들에게 (가야 할 길을) 지시하거나 제어합니다.
2. 그리스도로 인도
accordingly; (행위 언약 아래에서 실천하는 삶을 살아보려고 할 때)
discovering also the sinful pollutions of their nature, hearts, and lives; 자신의 본성, 영혼, 그리고 삶들이 얼마나 죄로 오염되어 있는 지를 발견하게 되고
so as, examining themselves thereby, 자기 자신을 살펴서
they may come to further conviction of, humiliation for, 더욱더 죄인임을 깨닫고 겸손하게 되고
and hatred against sin; 죄를 미워하게 되고
together with a clearer sight of the need they have of Christ, 그리스도가 필요하다는 것을 더욱더 분명히 깨달아
and the perfection of His obedience. 그 분의 완전한 순종에 대해서 알게 됩니다.
3. 거룩함으로 인도
It is likewise of use to the regenerate, 거듭난 자들에게도 마찬가지로 (유익한데)
to restrain their corruptions, in that it forbids sin; 죄를 제어함으로 (그들의 몸에 여전히 남아 있는) 부패를 삼가게 하며
and the threatenings 또한 경고의 역할을 하는데
of it serve to show what even their sins deserve, (첫째는) 그들의 죄로 인해 마땅히 받을 바가 무엇이며
and what afflictions in this life they may expect for them, 그로 인해 그의 삶에서 어떤 고통과 어려움을 당하는 지를 보여줍니다.
4. 상 받을 것을 기대하게 함
although freed from the curse thereof threatened in the law. 비록 그들이 율법의 저주에서 해방되었다고 할 지라도
The promises of it, 율법의 약속들은
in like manner, (율법을 범하면 벌을 받고, 지키면 상을 받는다는) 동일한 방식 하에서
show them God's approbation of obedience, 그들의 (율법에 대한) 순종을 하나님께서 받아 주신다는 사실과
and what blessings they may expect upon the performance thereof, 그로 인해 받게 될 축보들을 보여 줍니다.
5. 주의해야 할 점
although not as due to them by the law as a covenant of works: 행위언약인 율법을 지키려고 하는 것이 비록 구원받은 자들에게 합당해 보이지 않을지라도
so as a man's doing good, and refraining from evil (율법을 지키려 애쓰는 삶은) 사람을 선을 행하게 하고 악을 멀리하게 하는데
because the law encourageth to the one, and deterreth from the other, 이는 율법이 선을 장려하고 악을 억제하기 때문입니다.
is no evidence of his being under the law, (그렇지만 이러한 삶이) 율법에 아래 있다는 증거가 아니며,
and not under grace. 은혜 아래 있지 않음을 (보여주는 증거는) (더더욱) 아닙니다.
