1. 흔들릴 수 있는 구원의 확신

 

True believers may have the assurance of their salvation 참 된 신자들도 구원에 대한 확신이

 

divers ways shaken, 다양한 방식들로 흔들릴 수 있고

 

diminished, 감소되거나

 

and intermitted; (얼마동안) 사라질 수도 있는데

 

2. 흔들리게 된 원인

 

1) 태만

 

as, by negligence in preserving of it, (구원의 확실을) 지키는데 있어 태만하거나

 

2) 죄에 빠짐

 

by falling into some special sin which wounds the conscience and grieves the Spirit; 자신의 양심과 성령을 근심하게 하는 어떤 특별한 죄악 가운데 빠져 있거나

 

3) 유혹

 

by some sudden or vehement temptation, 뜻밖의 격렬한 유혹에 빠져들 때 

 

4) 하나님이 빛을 거두심

 

a. 잘못했을 때 

 

by God's withdrawing the light of His countenance, 하나님께서 그의 빛의 얼굴을 거두시거나

 

b. 바르게 행할 때 

 

and suffering even such as fear Him to walk in darkness and to have no light, 심지어 하나님을 경외하는 사람일지라도 어둠 가운데 걸도록 그 빛을 거두십니다. 

 

3. 구원의 확신의 흔들림이 구원의 취소는 아님 

 

yet are they never so utterly destitute of that seed of God, 그러나 하나님의 씨가 

 

and life of faith, 믿음의 생명이 

 

that love of Christ and, 그리스도와 대한 사랑과 

 

the brethren that sincerity of heart, and conscience of duty, 형제들에 대한 마음의 신실함과 의무에 대한 양심이 완전히 없어진 것은 아닙니다.  

 

4. 구원의 확신을 소생시키는 성령님

 

out of which, by the operation of the Spirit, 이런 것들은 성령님께서 행하심을 따라

 

this assurance may, in due time, be revived; 정한 때에 다시 살아납니다. 

 

5. 구원의 확신이 흔들릴 때에도 지키시고 보호해 주심

 

and by the which, in the meantime, 그리고 (구원이 확신이 흔들리는 그 순간에도)

 

they are supported from utter despair. 완전한 절망으로는 빠져 들지 않게 보호해 주십니다.
