시의 배경
시편 116편은 죽음의 위기에서 건짐을 받은 시인의 감사 찬송입니다.
이스라엘의 전통 속에서는 유월절에 불리던 ‘할렐 시편’(시 113–118편) 가운데 하나로,
하나님께 구원을 받은 개인이 그 은혜를 백성 앞에서 감사로 고백하는 시입니다.
예수 그리스도께서 마지막 만찬 후 제자들과 함께 부르신 시편으로 여겨지며(마 26:30),
그분의 고난과 부활, 그리고 구속의 잔을 예표하는 내용으로 신약과 긴밀히 연결됩니다.
시의 주제
“죽음에서 건지신 하나님께 감사하며, 그 은혜에 순종과 예배로 응답하는 삶”
시인은 하나님께서 죽음의 위기에서 자신의 생명을 건지셨음을 찬양하고,
그 은혜에 감사와 서원, 예배로 보답하겠다고 고백합니다.
그리스도 안에서는 이 고백이 완전히 성취되어 —
예수께서 죽음을 통과하시고, 구원의 잔을 드시며, 하나님의 뜻을 온전히 이루신 사건으로 완전해집니다.
1. 응답하신 하나님, 사랑의 시작
시 116:1–2
“{주}께서 내 음성과 내 간구를 들으셨으므로 내가 그분을 사랑하노라.”

“그는 육체에 계실 때에 자기를 능히 죽음에서 구원하실 이에게 심한 통곡과 눈물로 간구와 소원을 올렸고 그의 경건하심으로 말미암아 들으심을 얻었느니라.”
2. 죽음의 고통 속에서 부르짖음
시 116:3–4
“사망의 고통이 나를 에워싸고 지옥의 아픔이 나를 붙들었도다. … 오 {주}여, 내 혼을 건지소서.”

시 116:17–19

Background of the Psalm
Psalm 116 is a personal song of thanksgiving from one who was delivered from the threat of death.
It belongs to the Egyptian Hallel Psalms (Psalms 113–118), traditionally sung by Israel during the Passover.
In the New Testament context, it is believed to have been one of the psalms sung by Jesus and His disciples after the Last Supper (Matthew 26:30), thus foreshadowing His suffering, death, and resurrection.
Theme of the Psalm
The central theme is gratitude for deliverance from death and a vow to live in faithful obedience to God.
In Christ, this thanksgiving finds its perfect fulfillment—He passed through death, drank the cup of salvation, and accomplished complete redemption according to the Father’s will.
1. God Who Hears and the Beginning of Love
