성도가 미워해야 할 악 

1. 하나님을 왕으로 인정하지 않는 악 (97:1)

97:1 “여호와께서 다스리시니 땅은 즐거워하며…”

• 악의 모습: 하나님이 다스리신다는 사실을 거부하고 자기 삶의 주인으로 사는 태도

• 성도의 태도: 하나님이 다스리신다는 믿음을 붙들고 기뻐하기

• 구절 의미: 하나님의 통치가 현실임을 인정하고, 세상 상황과 상관없이 기뻐하며 신뢰해야 함

2. 하나님을 대적하는 악 (97:2–5)

97:2–5 “구름과 흑암이 그를 둘렀고 공의와 정의가 그의 보좌의 기초로다. 불이 그 앞에서 나와 사방의 대적들을 불사르도다… 산들이 여호와 앞에서 밀랍같이 녹았도다.”

• 악의 모습: 하나님 앞에서 교만히 서고 그분의 거룩함과 권능을 무시하는 태도

• 성도의 태도: 하나님의 거룩하심을 경외하고 교만을 내려놓으며 겸손히 순종하기

• 구절 의미: 하나님의 권능과 정의는 압도적이며, 대적하는 모든 세력은 그분 앞에서 무력함을 깨닫게 함

3. 하나님의 옳으심을 무시하는 악 (97:6)

97:6 “하늘이 그의 의를 선포하고 모든 백성이 그의 영광을 보았도다.”

• 악의 모습:

  • 하나님의 공의를 외면하고 자기 판단만 믿는 태도

  • 하나님의 영광을 무시하고, 그 손길과 역사하심을 부정하는 불신앙

• 성도의 태도:

  • 하나님의 의를 인정하고 말씀을 기준 삼아 살기

  • 감사와 찬양으로 하나님의 옳으심을 선포하기

• 구절 의미: 모든 피조물이 하나님의 의와 영광을 증언하므로, 이를 외면하는 것이 악이며, 성도는 이를 인정하고 찬양해야 함

4. 우상 숭배의 악 (97:7)

97:7 “조각한 신상을 섬기는 자는 다 수치를 당할 것이라…”

• 악의 모습: 하나님 대신 다른 것(돈, 권력, 인정, 쾌락)을 섬기고 의지하는 태도

• 성도의 태도: 마음의 우상을 내려놓고 오직 하나님께 엎드리기

• 구절 의미: 진정한 신앙은 하나님께 집중하며, 우상을 섬기는 태도는 결국 수치와 패배를 가져옴

5. 하나님보다 다른 것을 높이는 악 (97:8–9)

97:8–9 “여호와여 시온이 듣고 기뻐하며 유다의 딸들이 주의 심판으로 말미암아 즐거워하였나이다. 여호와여 주는 온 땅 위에 높으시며 모든 신들보다 높으시니이다.”

• 악의 모습:

  • 하나님보다 다른 신(세상의 가치, 권력, 사람의 인정 등)을 높이는 태도

  • 하나님의 심판을 무시하거나 기뻐하지 않는 태도

• 성도의 태도:

  • 하나님이 모든 것 위에 계신 분임을 인정하고 그분만 높이기

  • 하나님의 심판이 옳고 공의롭다는 사실을 기뻐하기

  • 세상의 다른 권세보다 하나님의 통치를 더 소중히 여기기

• 구절 의미: 하나님이 모든 권세보다 높으시다는 사실을 인정하고, 의로운 심판을 기뻐하는 마음을 가져야 함

6. 죄와 타협하는 악 (97:10)

97:10 “여호와를 사랑하는 너희여 악을 미워하라…”

• 악의 모습: 죄를 미워하지 않고 방관하거나 즐기며 죄와 타협하는 태도

• 성도의 태도: 악을 미워하고 하나님의 보호를 신뢰하며 거룩한 삶 추구하기

• 구절 의미: 하나님을 사랑하는 자는 반드시 악을 멀리해야 하며, 거룩하게 살아야 함을 강조

7. 빛과 기쁨을 거부하는 악 (97:11–12)

97:11–12 “의인을 위하여 빛을 뿌리고 마음이 정직한 자를 위하여 기쁨을 뿌리셨도다. 너희는 여호와 안에서 즐거워하고 그의 성실함을 찬송하라.”

• 악의 모습: 하나님의 빛과 기쁨을 외면하고 절망과 원망 속에 머무르는 태도

• 성도의 태도: 하나님의 빛과 은혜를 감사와 기쁨으로 받아들이고, 그 성실함을 찬양하기

• 구절 의미: 하나님께 신실하게 사는 사람에게 풍성한 은혜와 기쁨이 임하며, 우리는 이를 기쁨과 찬양으로 반응해야 함

 

The Evil Believers Must Hate 

1. Evil That Denies God's Sovereignty (Psalm 97:1)

"The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof."

• Evil's Manifestation: Rejecting God's reign and living as if one is the ruler of their own life.

• Believer's Response: Rejoicing in God's sovereignty and trusting in His rule over all creation.

• Scriptural Insight: Acknowledging God's reign leads to joy and peace, as His authority is absolute.

2. Evil That Opposes God's Holiness (Psalm 97:2–5)

"Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne."

• Evil's Manifestation: Standing in opposition to God's holiness and justice, often through pride and rebellion.

• Believer's Response: Embracing humility and reverence for God's holy presence.

• Scriptural Insight: God's holiness is unapproachable by evil; His justice prevails over all opposition.

3. Evil That Ignores God's Righteousness (Psalm 97:6)

"The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory."

• Evil's Manifestation: Dismissing God's righteousness and glory, choosing to live in self-deception.

• Believer's Response: Acknowledging and proclaiming God's righteousness, living in accordance with His truth.

• Scriptural Insight: The natural world testifies to God's righteousness; ignoring this testimony is a grave error.

4. Evil That Worships Idols (Psalm 97:7)

"Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods."

• Evil's Manifestation: Engaging in idolatry, placing trust in created things rather than the Creator.

• Believer's Response: Rejecting idolatry and worshiping God alone.

• Scriptural Insight: Idolatry leads to confusion and shame; true worship belongs to God alone.

5. Evil That Elevates Anything Above God (Psalm 97:8–9)

"Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD."

• Evil's Manifestation: Exalting other powers or authorities above God, leading to misplaced priorities.

• Believer's Response: Rejoicing in God's judgments and acknowledging His supremacy over all.

• Scriptural Insight: Recognizing God's supreme authority brings joy and alignment with His will.

6. Evil That Compromises with Sin (Psalm 97:10)

"Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked."

• Evil's Manifestation: Tolerating sin and compromising with evil, leading to spiritual downfall.

• Believer's Response: Hating evil and aligning oneself with God's holiness.

• Scriptural Insight: Loving God entails hating evil; His protection is for those who choose righteousness.

7. Evil That Rejects God's Light and Joy (Psalm 97:11–12)

"Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart."

• Evil's Manifestation: Rejecting the light and joy that come from God, choosing darkness instead.

• Believer's Response: Embracing the light and joy provided by God, living in His presence.

• Scriptural Insight: God grants light and joy to the righteous; rejecting these blessings leads to spiritual darkness.
