1. 인간의 악함

1) 죽기 직전까지 회개하지 않음 (시 78:34)

“그분께서 그들을 죽이실 때에야 비로소 그들이 그분을 구하며…”

• 하나님은 여러 차례 회개를 촉구하셨으나,
  인간은 귀를 막고 고의로 무시함.

• 죽음이 눈앞에 닥치기 전까지 결코 회개하지 않음.

요한계시록 16:10-11

“…사람들이 아픔으로 말미암아 혀를 깨물고,
자기의 아픔과 종기로 말미암아 하늘의 하나님을 비방하고
그들의 행위를 회개하지 아니하더라”

• 종말의 심판 때도 인간은 끝까지 회개하지 않고
  오히려 하나님을 비방함.

2) 거짓 충성, 거짓 예배 (시 78:36-37)

“그들이 입으로 아첨하며 혀로 거짓말하였으니…”

• 인간은 필요할 때만 하나님을 찾으며,
  그마저도 위선적이고 거짓됨.

• 하나님이 마음을 아시지 못한다고 생각하며 ‘연기’함.

예레미야 3:10

“마음으로 내게 돌아오지 아니하고 거짓으로 돌아왔느니라”

예레미야 7:9-10

“…그러면서 내 이름으로 일컫는 이 집에 들어와
내 앞에 서서 말하기를 ‘우리가 구원을 얻었나이다’ 하느냐?”

• 입술의 신앙, 형식적 예배는 하나님 앞에 가증함.

 

2. 인간 악함의 근본 원인 (시 78:37)

1) 마음이 하나님께 바르지 않음

• 히브리어 어근 כּוּן (kun)

  • 기본 뜻: 세우다, 준비하다, 확립하다

  • 신학적 의미:
    하나님과의 관계 속에서 마음이 확고히 세워진 상태

• 시편 78:37

  “그들의 마음이 그분께 바르지 아니하며…”

  • 하나님과의 언약 관계 안에서
    마음이 흔들리고 배신한 상태를 뜻함

2) 관련 성경 구절

• 시 51:10(12)

  “하나님이여, 내 속에 정한 마음을 창조하시고,
  정직한 영(נָכוֹן)을 새롭게 하소서”

  • 흔들리지 않는, 확고한 마음이 필요함.

• 사무엘상 7:3

  “너희 마음을 여호와께로 향하게 하고 그만 섬기라”

• 시 57:7 (히 56:8)

  “하나님이여, 내 마음이 확고합니다(נָכוֹן לִבִּי)”

3. 인간의 악함을 깨뜨리는 유일한 길: 성령과 새 언약

• 인간 스스로는 이 악함을 끊어낼 수 없음.

• 해결책: 성령의 내주와 새 언약

1) 새 언약 (예레미야 31:31-33)

“내가 내 법을 그들의 속에 두며
그들의 마음에 기록하여
나는 그들의 하나님이 되고 그들은 내 백성이 되리라.”

2) 성령의 내주 (에스겔 36:26-27)

“새 영을 너희 속에 두고 …
내 영을 너희 속에 두어
너희로 내 규례를 행하게 하리니”

• 성령만이 돌 같은 마음을 깨뜨림

• 하나님을 참으로 주인으로 모시게 하심

• 거짓 예배가 아닌 마음의 예배가 가능해짐

 

The Depravity of Man and Its Remedy

1. The Depravity of Man

1) Refusing to Repent Until the Point of Death (Psalm 78:34)

KJV:

“When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.”

• God repeatedly called for repentance,
  but man deliberately closed his ears.

• True repentance does not come until death is imminent.

Revelation 16:10-11 (KJV)

“And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast;
and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores,
and repented not of their deeds.”

• Even in the final judgment, humanity does not repent.

• Instead, they bite their tongues and blaspheme God.

2) False Loyalty and Hypocritical Worship (Psalm 78:36-37)

KJV:

“Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth,
and they lied unto him with their tongues.”

• Man seeks God only in times of need,
  yet even that is hypocritical and deceitful.

• They pretend before God, as if He does not know their hearts.

Jeremiah 3:10 (KJV)

“And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me
with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.”

Jeremiah 7:9-10 (KJV)

“Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely,
and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say,
We are delivered to do all these abominations?”

• Lip-service religion and formalistic worship are an abomination to God.

 

2. The Root Cause of Man’s Depravity (Psalm 78:37)

1) A Heart Not Steadfast Toward God

• Hebrew root כּוּן (kun)

  • Basic meaning: to set up, establish, make firm

  • Theological nuance:

    • A heart firmly established in relationship with God

Psalm 78:37 (KJV)

“For their heart was not right with him,
neither were they stedfast in his covenant.”

• A heart unestablished before God is a heart of betrayal and instability.

2) Related Verses

• Psalm 51:10 (KJV)

“Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me.”

• Here, right spirit = firm, unwavering heart (נָכוֹן).

• 1 Samuel 7:3 (KJV)

3. The Only Remedy for Human Depravity: The Holy Spirit and the New Covenant

• Man cannot break free from this depravity by his own effort.

“…I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts;
and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

2) The Indwelling of the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:26-27, KJV)

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you:
and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes…”

• Only the Spirit can break the stony heart.

• He makes God the true Lord of our hearts.

• True worship flows from the heart, not hypocrisy.
