시의 배경

시편 74편에서는 시인이 하나님을 “나의 왕”으로 부르며, 고통의 현실 속에서 “언제까지입니까?”라며 절규합니다 (10절, 12절).
시편 75편에서는 마치 그 부르짖음에 응답하듯, 하나님께서 정한 때에 재판장으로서 공의를 세우실 것을 선포합니다 (2절, 7절).
이러한 두 시편의 흐름은 억울한 현실 속에서 하나님께 부르짖는 신앙인의 기도와, 그 기도에 대한 하나님의 주권적 심판과 개입이라는 구조를 보여줍니다.

 

시의 내용

 

1. 하나님은 도덕과 질서를 지키시는 재판관이십니다.

“땅과 그 안의 모든 거주자들이 흔들릴 때, 내가 그 기둥들을 견고히 세웠노라.” (3절)

이 말씀은 세상이 흔들려도, 하나님께서 보이지 않는 곳에서 도덕적 질서의 기초를 단단히 붙들고 계심을 보여줍니다.
우리는 혼란과 부조리 속에서도, 하나님이 모든 것을 유지하고 계심을 신뢰할 수 있습니다.

 

2. 하나님은 높이시기도 하고 낮추시기도 하시는 재판관이십니다.

“하나님은 재판장이시라, 어떤 이는 낮추시고 어떤 이는 높이시느니라.” (7절)

사람의 높고 낮음은 권력이나 노력에 달린 것이 아니라, 하나님의 판단과 주권에 달려 있습니다.
그러므로 우리는 스스로를 높이려 하지 말고, 하나님의 평가와 타이밍에 맡기는 삶을 살아야 합니다.

 

3. 하나님은 정한 때에 심판하시는 재판관이십니다.

“내가 정한 기약이 이르면 내가 바르게 심판하리니...” (2절)
“여호와의 손에 잔이 있으니... 그 찌꺼기까지도 악인이 마시리라.” (8절)

하나님의 심판은 결코 임의적이지 않습니다. 정해진 때에, 정확하게, 철저하게 이루어집니다.
악인의 번영에 낙심하지 말고, 하나님의 완전한 시간표와 의로움을 신뢰하며 살아가야 합니다.

 

적용

세상이 부조리해 보이고, 억울한 일을 당할 때 우리는 사람이나 세상과 싸우지 않습니다.
왜냐하면 하나님이 우리의 재판장이시기 때문입니다.

스스로를 변호하거나 억지로 높이려 애쓰기보다, 하나님의 판단과 심판을 기다리는 믿음의 자세가 필요합니다.
이 시편은 우리에게 이렇게 말합니다.
“하나님은 지금도 다 보고 계신다. 그리고 그분의 정의는 결코 실패하지 않는다.”

 

결론

하나님은 왕이십니다. 우리를 위해 싸우시고, 보호하십니다.
하나님은 또한 재판장이십니다. 도덕과 질서를 굳게 세우시며, 교만한 자를 낮추시고, 의로운 자를 높이십니다.

우리가 세상 속 억울함과 불의 앞에서도 낙심하지 않고, 싸우지 않을 수 있는 이유는
하나님이 정한 때에 반드시 공의롭게 심판하시는 분이라는 사실을 믿기 때문입니다.

 

Background of the Psalm

In Psalm 74, the psalmist appeals to God as “my King” and cries out in anguish, asking, “How long?” (Psalm 74:10, 12).
In Psalm 75, this cry is answered, as God is proclaimed to be the Judge who will establish justice at His appointed time (Psalm 75:2, 7).
These two psalms together portray a pattern: the suffering believer crying out in injustice, and God responding with sovereign intervention and judgment.

 

Content of the Psalm

 

1. God is the Judge who upholds moral order and justice.

“The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.” (Psalm 75:3)

Even when the world seems to be crumbling, God is the one who holds its foundations firm.
Though unseen, He upholds the moral fabric of creation. We can trust that He is maintaining order, even in the midst of chaos and injustice.

 

2. God is the Judge who humbles and exalts.

“But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” (Psalm 75:7)

Promotion and demotion are not in the hands of man, but in the sovereign will of God.
Instead of striving to exalt ourselves, we must entrust our lives to God’s timing and evaluation. He brings down the proud and lifts up the humble.

3. God is the Judge who will bring judgment at the appointed time.

“When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.” (Psalm 75:2, KJV)
“For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.” (Psalm 75:8, KJV)

God’s judgment is never arbitrary. It comes exactly at the right time, with perfect justice and completeness.
Do not be discouraged by the temporary prosperity of the wicked. Trust in God’s perfect timing and righteous judgment.

 

Application

When the world feels unjust and we suffer wrongs, we do not need to fight with people or systems.
We believe that God is our Judge.

Instead of trying to defend or promote ourselves, we entrust our case to the One who judges rightly.
This psalm reminds us:

“God sees everything even now, and His justice will never fail.”

 

Conclusion

God is our King. He fights for us and protects us.
God is also our Judge. He establishes moral order, brings down the proud, and lifts up the righteous.

We do not need to despair or strive for justice with our own strength, even when faced with injustice and oppression.
We trust that God will judge righteously at the appointed time, and His justice will prevail.
