• בצדקתך – “주의 의로”

② “주의 진리를 찬양하리이다” (‘אֱמֶת’, ’emet)

• 하나님께서 평생 신실하게 시인을 돌보셨다는 찬양입니다.
• “진리”는 하나님의 변함없는 사랑과 보호, 언약에 대한 성실함을 의미합니다.

③ “오 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이여”

• “거룩”은 도덕적 의미뿐 아니라, 하나님이 피조물과 본질적으로 구별된, 초월적인 존재임을 뜻합니다.
• 하나님께서 이스라엘과 특별한 언약 관계를 맺고 계시며, 죄악에서 그들을 거룩하게 하시고 보호하시는 분임을 나타냅니다.
• 이는 시인이 자신의 평생을 돌보신 언약의 하나님, 신실하신 하나님을 찬양하는 표현입니다.

 

4. 시인의 사명

“내가 주의 능력을 이 세대에게 보이고 주의 권능을 앞으로 올 모든 사람에게 보이기까지 나를 버리지 마소서”(18)

 

신앙을 가진 부모의 참된 소망은 자식이 신앙 안에서 바르게 자라는 것입니다.

신앙을 가진 지도자의 참된 소망은 민족과 나라가 신앙 안에서 든든히 서는 것입니다.

시인은 노년에 이것을 바라고 있습니다.

부귀와 영화와 다른 어떤 것도 바라고 있지 않습니다.

하나님의 도움과 보호를 구하는 것도 이 목적 때문입니다.

참 된 신앙을 가진 자의 노년의 소망은 바로 이것이어야 함을 배웁니다.

 

1. The Psalmist’s Situation:

The psalmist is in the midst of suffering and crisis. His descriptions are filled with urgent prayers for help and salvation.

• “Let not mine enemies triumph over me.” (Psalm 71:1)
• “Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape.” (Psalm 71:2)
• “Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked.” (Psalm 71:4)
• “Thou hast showed me great and sore troubles.” (Psalm 71:20)
• “Mine enemies speak against me.” (Psalm 71:24)
  ▶︎ The hardship and threats are very real.

2. The Psalmist’s Journey of Faith:

He confesses that his faith began in his youth and has continued into old age.

• “Thou art my trust from my youth.” (Psalm 71:5)
• “Thou hast been my hope, O Lord, from my youth.” (Psalm 71:5)
• “Thou hast taught me from my youth.” (Psalm 71:17)
• “Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation.” (Psalm 71:18)
  His trust in God remains unshaken.

3. The Psalmist’s Confession of Faith:

• The word “righteousness” (Hebrew: צֶדֶק, tsedeq) appears five times:
  • “According to thy righteousness” (Psalm 71:1)
  • “Thy righteousness” (Psalm 71:2, repeated thrice)
  • “And thy righteousness” (Psalm 71:15)
• He praises God’s faithfulness and steadfast love, using the word “truth” (Hebrew: אֱמֶת, ’emet), indicating God’s unwavering covenant faithfulness.
• The title “O God, the Holy One of Israel” emphasizes not only God’s moral holiness but His transcendence and His special covenant relationship with Israel.
• This title expresses the psalmist’s praise for the covenant-keeping and faithful God who has cared for him all his life.

4. The Psalmist’s Mission:

“I will shew thy strength unto this generation;
thy power to every one that is to come.” (Psalm 71:18)

The true desire of a faithful parent is that their children grow in faith.
The true hope of a faithful leader is that their nation and people stand firmly in faith.
The psalmist, in his old age, desires this above all things.
He seeks God’s help and protection for this very purpose.
From this, we learn that the true hope of one who possesses genuine faith in old age should be exactly this.
