1. 죽음 앞에서 반석이신 하나님께 간구 (1~2절)

[1절] (다윗의 시) 오 나의 반석이 되신 {주}여, 내가 주께 부르짖으리니 내게 잠잠하지 마소서. 주께서 내게 잠잠하시면 내가 구덩이로 내려가는 자들처럼 될까 염려하나이다.

• “구덩이로 내려가는 자”는 ‘죽음’을 의미합니다. 또한 이 죽음은 영적인 죽음을 나타냅니다.
• “구덩이로 내려가는 자들”은 하나님과의 관계가 끊어진 자들을 뜻합니다. 다윗은 현재 하나님과의 관계가 끊어진 것처럼 느끼며, 하나님께서 침묵하실 때 그는 영적인 절망에 빠질 것을 두려워합니다.
• 그러나 하나님께서 그의 기도에 응답하시면 그는 죽음의 위험에서 벗어나리라 확신합니다.

[2절] 내가 주께 부르짖고 하나님께서 말씀하시는 거룩한 곳을 향하여 손을 들 때에 나의 간구하는 소리를 들으소서.

• “하나님께서 말씀하시는 거룩한 곳”은 성전을 의미합니다. 다윗의 시대에는 아직 솔로몬 성전이 건축되기 전이므로, 성막과 시온산을 가리킵니다.
• 그곳은 하나님의 임재가 있는 장소입니다. “손을 들어” 간구하는 것은 하나님의 임재를 간절히 바라는 자세입니다.

 

2. 악인에 대한 심판 기원 (3~5절)

[3절] 사악한 자나 불법을 행하는 자들과 함께 나를 끌어내지 마소서. 그들은 자기 이웃들에게 화평을 말하나 해악이 그들의 마음속에 있나이다.

• “사악한 자”는 하나님을 거부하는 성품을 가진 자들입니다.
• “불법”은 고의로 악행을 저지르는 것을 의미합니다.
• “해악”은 타인을 속이고 해를 끼치는 자들을 말합니다.

[4절] 그들의 행위와 그들이 저지른 사악한 행위대로 그들에게 갚으시며 그들의 손이 일한 대로 그들에게 갚으사 그들이 받을 보응을 그들에게 내리소서.

• “갚으사”는 ‘되돌려주다’라는 의미로, 그들이 행한 대로 응징과 보응을 내려 달라는 기도입니다.
• 이 구절은 하나님의 공의로운 심판을 구하는 내용입니다.

[5절] 그들은 {주}께서 행하신 일들과 그분께서 손으로 경영하신 것에 관심을 두지 아니하므로 그분께서 그들을 멸하시고 세우지 아니하시리로다.

• “주께서 행하신 일들”은 하나님께서 베푸신 기적들, 즉 출애굽, 광야의 기적, 가나안 정복 시의 역사적 기적들을 가리킵니다.
• 사사 시대 때의 놀라운 구원입니다. 그들은 이러한 하나님의 역사와 섭리를 무시하며, 결국 멸망을 당할 것입니다.

 

3. 하나님의 응답에 대한 감사 (6~7절)

[6~7절] {주}께서 나의 간구하는 소리를 들으셨으니 그런즉 내가 그분을 찬송하리로다.

{주}는 나의 힘이시요, 나의 방패시니 내 마음이 그분을 신뢰하여 내가 도움을 얻었도다. 그러므로 내 마음이 크게 기뻐하며 내가 내 노래로 그분을 찬양하리로다.

• 다윗은 하나님의 응답을 받음으로 하나님과의 교제 속에서 기쁨과 확신을 느낍니다.
• 그의 기쁨은 하나님과의 교제가 끊어지지 않음을 확신하게 된 기쁨이며, 이는 구원의 확신에서 나오는 기쁨입니다.

 

4. 목자 되신 하나님께 백성을 위하여 드리는 기도 (8~9절)

[8~9절] {주}는 그들의 힘이시요, 자신의 기름 부음 받은 자의 구원하는 힘이시로다.

주의 백성을 구원하시고 주의 상속 백성에게 복을 주시며 또 그들을 먹이시고 영원토록 들어 올리시옵소서.

• 이제 다윗은 자신의 간구를 넘어서 백성을 위한 기도를 드립니다. “자신의 기름 부음 받은 자”는 다윗 자신을 가리키며, 왕으로서 하나님의 백성 보호가 그의 책무임을 나타냅니다.
• 그는 사악한 자들이 득세하지 않도록 기도하며, 하나님께서 백성들을 구원하시고 영원히 보호해주시기를 간구합니다.

 

다윗은 죽음의 위기 속에서 하나님께 간절히 부르짖으며 응답해 주시기를 간절히 원했습니다.
그는 기도의 응답을 통해 하나님이 자신의 힘과 방패가 되심을 경험하며 더욱 깊은 신뢰를 가지게 되었습니다.
그리고 그 신앙의 경험을 자신만의 것으로 두지 않고 공동체로 확장하여, 백성을 위해 기도하고 축복합니다.

신앙의 성장은 결코 개인에게만 머물지 않습니다.
개인의 믿음이 자라날 때, 그 영향력은 자연스럽게 공동체에도 미치게 됩니다.
오늘 우리가 기도 응답을 통해 하나님을 경험할 때, 그것은 나를 성장시키는 동시에 공동체에 축복의 통로가 됩니다.

 

1. Crying Out to God, the Rock, in the Face of Death (Verses 1–2)

[Verse 1] (A Psalm of David) O Lord, my rock, I cry unto Thee; be not silent to me. Lest, if Thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

• "Them that go down into the pit" signifies death, which also represents spiritual death.
• "Them that go down into the pit" spritually refers to those who are cut off from God.
• David feels as if his relationship with God has been severed. If God remains silent, he fears he will fall into spiritual despair.
• However, David is confident that if God answers his prayer, he will be delivered from the danger of death.

[Verse 2] Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry unto Thee, when I lift up my hands toward Thy holy oracle.

• "Thy holy oracle" refers to the temple. In David’s time, before Solomon’s temple was built, this referred to the tabernacle and Mount Zion.
• This was the place of God’s presence.
• "Lifting up hands" in prayer is an expression of his deep yearning for God’s presence.

2. A Plea for Judgment Upon the Wicked (Verses 3–5)

[Verse 3] Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts.

• "The wicked" are those who reject God by nature.
• "Iniquity" refers to those who deliberately commit evil acts.
• "Mischief" refers to those who deceive and harm others.

[Verse 4] Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavors: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.

• "Render to them" means to repay—a plea for divine justice, asking God to judge them according to their own actions.
• This verse expresses a prayer for God's righteous judgment.

[Verse 5] Because they regard not the works of the Lord, nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them and not build them up.

• "The works of the Lord" refer to the miraculous acts of God, such as:
  • The Exodus,
  • Miracles in the wilderness,
  • The conquest of Canaan,
  • The great deliverances in the time of the Judges.
• These people ignore God's mighty works and providence, leading to their ultimate destruction.

3. Thanksgiving for God’s Answer (Verses 6–7)

[Verses 6–7] Blessed be the Lord, because He hath heard the voice of my supplications.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore, my heart greatly rejoiceth, and with my song will I praise Him.

• David rejoices in God’s answer, finding joy and assurance in communion with Him.
• His joy comes from the certainty that his relationship with God remains intact—this is the joy that arises from the assurance of salvation.

4. A Prayer for God's Flock (Verses 8–9)

[Verses 8–9] The Lord is their strength, and He is the saving strength of His anointed.
Save Thy people, and bless Thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up forever.

• Now David extends his prayer beyond himself to include the people of God.
• "His anointed" refers to David himself, indicating his role as a king responsible for protecting God’s people.
• He prays that the wicked may not prevail and that God would save, bless, and eternally sustain His people.

 

Application: Trusting in God's Response

David earnestly cried out to God in the face of the threat of death, desperately seeking His response.
Through God's answer to his prayer, he experienced the Lord as his strength and shield, deepening his trust in Him.
He did not keep this experience to himself but extended it to the community, praying for and blessing his people.

Spiritual growth is never limited to the individual.
When one's faith matures, its impact naturally extends to the community.
As we experience God's response to our prayers today, it not only strengthens our faith but also becomes a channel of blessing for those around us.
