주께서 내 원수들의 얼굴 앞에서 내 앞에 상을 차리시고 기름을 내 머리에 부으시니 내 잔이 넘치나이다
원수들은 누구인가?
히브리어에는 ‘원수’라는 의미를 표현하기 위한 여러 단어들이 사용됩니다.
시편 23:5절에 사용된 ‘원수’는 צָרַר(차랄)입니다.
이 단어는 ‘좁은’, ‘비좁은’, ‘공간이 넉넉치 않는’ 의미로 사용됩니다.
목자와 양떼들은 드디어 여름 목장에 도착했습니다.
산의 어느 곳에 이르러 넓은 평지가 펼쳐져 있습니다.
그 곳에 목초가 자라고 있습니다.
이 목초지들은 마치 잘 차려진 table가 같습니다.
그러나 이 목초지들은 그렇게 넓지는 않습니다.
그리고 양떼들을 위협하는 위험 요소들이 도사리고 있습니다.
곳곳에 낭떠러지가 있습니다.
뾰족한 돌들이 양떼들에게 상처를 줄 수 있습니다.
곳곳에 양떼들의 움직임을 제약하는 것들이 많이 있습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고, 기나긴 산행을 끝낸 양떼들에게 큰 만찬이 아닐 수 없습니다.
왜 기름을 내 머리에 붓는가?
양떼들의 코에 파리들과 벌레들이 알을 낳기를 원합니다.
알들이 자라서 양들의 뇌로 들어갈 때, 양들은 죽게 됩니다.
목자는 이를 잘 알고 있기에, 양들에게 기름을 붓습니다.
파리떼들과 벌레들의 공격에서 보호하기 위함입니다.
하나님은 우리를 인도하시는 목자이십니다.
우리의 인생의 여정 속에서 영적인 만찬을 경험케 하실 것입니다.
또한, 우리를 공격한 여러 영적인 위협에서 우리를 안전하게 보호해 주실 것입니다.
비록 이 땅에 여전히 우리를 위협하는 요소들이 많을 지라도, 목자의 보호함 속에서 만찬을 즐길 수 있는 기쁨을 누릴 것입니다.
"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." (Psalm 23:5, KJV)
Who are these enemies?
In Hebrew, there are several words used to express the meaning of "enemy." In Psalm 23:5, the word for "enemy" is צָרַר (tsarar). This word is used to convey meanings such as "narrow," "restricted," or "lacking space." The shepherd and the flock have finally arrived at the summer pasture. Reaching a certain area in the mountains, a spacious plain opens up. Grass grows there, resembling a well-prepared table. However, these pastures aren’t very wide. Various dangers lurk, threatening the sheep. There are cliffs here and there, and sharp rocks that could injure the flock. Many obstacles in this pasture limit the sheep’s movement. Nonetheless, after a long mountain journey, this is a grand feast for the sheep.
Why anoint the head with oil?
Flies and insects attempt to lay eggs in the noses of the sheep. When the eggs grow and the larvae enter the sheep’s brain, it can lead to death. The shepherd, knowing this, applies oil to the sheep. This is to protect them from the attacks of flies and insects.
God is our shepherd who guides us. On our journey through life, He allows us to experience a spiritual feast. Additionally, He keeps us safe from the various spiritual threats that seek to harm us. Though there are still many things in this world that threaten us, we can experience the joy of this feast under the shepherd’s protection.
