The meaning of "Muthlaben" is not clear as it does not appear anywhere else.
The structure of this poem is as follows:
Praise to the Lord seated on the throne (verses 1-4)
Praise to the Lord judging the nations (verses 5-8)
Praise to the Lord, the King of Zion (verses 9-14)
The dual destiny of the nations and Zion (verses 15-20)
The word "judgment" is prominently repeated in Psalm (7, 12, 19, 20)
Therefore, the title of Psalm 9 is:
The Lord who judges the world with righteousness
The content of the psalm:
The personal experience of the poet (verses 1-4) In verses 1-4, the poet praises God. The reason the poet praises God is in verse 4. "For you have upheld my right and my cause, sitting enthroned as the righteous judge." The word "right" means 'to prove, to prove'. The word "cause" is the same word as "judgment". This word means "trial, judgment". Putting these words together, the poet praises God for proving his righteousness. The Lord who sits on the throne has judged himself "righteously", "rightly". "I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the wonderful things you have done." The poet praises the Lord "with all his heart". He is telling of all the wonderful things the Lord has done for him.
The God who judges forever But the Lord, who is enthroned forever, will endure. He has established his throne for judgment. (7)
The God who judges with righteousness and fairness "And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness." (8) The word "righteousness" means 'right'. The word "uprightness" means "equal" or means 'fair'. When the Lord judges the nations, he judges with righteousness and fairness.
The God who judges the nations.
“But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment(7)”.
“And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness(8)”.
“The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken(15).”
“Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight”(19).
“Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah(20)”.
One must remember that God is judging. The role of king protects the people in war. The role of judge rules over the people.
Today, we must recognize that, like the poet of Psalm 9.
We have a judge in this unjust and suffering world.
We must go to this judge and confess our injustice. We must know that our judge never forsakes the righteous.
We must experience the righteous judgment of the Lord and praise Him.
This personal experience will lead to hope and expectation in the Lord who will judge the whole world.
May we experience the righteous and fair judgment of God today and strengthen our faith as we go.
