율법의 유익: 참 신자와 다른 이들에게
Although true believers be not under the law as a covenant of works,
참 신자들은 행위 언약인 율법 아래에서
to be thereby justified or condemned;
의롭게 되거나 정죄함을 받는 것은 아니지만
yet is it of great use to them, as well as to others;
그러나 이 율법은 성도들과 아직 구원받지 못한 자들 모두에게 유익합니다.
1. 생활의 규율
in that, as a rule of life,
하나의 생활의 규율로써
informing them of the will of God
그들에게 하나님의 뜻을 알려주고
and their duty,
그들이 마땅히 행해야 할 의무를 알려주며
it directs and binds them to walk
그들이 가야 할 길을 지시하고 제어합니다.
2. 그리스도로 인도
accordingly;
(행위 언약 아래에서 실천하는 삶을 살아보려고 할 때)
discovering also the sinful pollutions of their nature, hearts, and lives;
자신의 본성, 마음, 삶이 죄로 오염되어 있음을 발견하게 되고
so as, examining themselves thereby,
자기 자신을 살펴
they may come to further conviction of, humiliation for,
더욱 죄인임을 깨닫고 겸손해지며
and hatred against sin;
죄를 미워하게 됩니다.
together with a clearer sight of the need they have of Christ,
또한 그리스도의 필요성을 더 분명히 깨닫고
and the perfection of His obedience.
그분의 완전한 순종을 알게 됩니다.
3. 거룩함으로 인도
It is likewise of use to the regenerate,
거듭난 자들에게도 마찬가지로 유익한데
to restrain their corruptions, in that it forbids sin;
죄를 금지함으로써 그들의 부패를 절제하게 하고
and the threatenings
또한 율법의 경고는
of it serve to show what even their sins deserve,
죄로 인해 마땅히 받아야 할 결과가 무엇인지,
and what afflictions in this life they may expect for them,
그로 인해 이 삶에서 겪게 될 고통과 어려움이 무엇인지 보여줍니다.
4. 상 받을 것을 기대하게 함
although freed from the curse thereof threatened in the law.
비록 그들이 율법의 저주에서 해방되었을지라도
The promises of it,
율법의 약속들은
in like manner,
동일한 방식 안에서
show them God's approbation of obedience,
그들의 순종을 하나님께서 받으신다는 사실과
and what blessings they may expect upon the performance thereof,
그로 인해 받을 축복들을 보여줍니다.
5. 주의해야 할 점
although not as due to them by the law as a covenant of works:
행위 언약으로서 율법을 지키는 것이 구원받은 자에게 합당해 보이지 않을지라도
so as a man's doing good, and refraining from evil
율법을 지키려 애쓰는 삶은 선을 행하게 하고 악을 멀리하게 합니다.
because the law encourageth to the one, and deterreth from the other,
이는 율법이 선을 장려하고 악을 억제하기 때문입니다.
is no evidence of his being under the law,
그러나 이러한 삶이 율법 아래 있음을 증명하는 것은 아니며
and not under grace.
더 나아가 은혜 아래 있지 않음을 드러내는 것도 아닙니다.
