1. 인간과 하나님과의 단절
The distance between God and the creature is so great that
하나님과 피조물 사이의 거리는 너무 커서
although reasonable creatures do owe obedience unto him as their Creator,
이성적인 피조물은 창조주이신 하나님께 순종할 의무가 있음에도 불구하고,
yet they could never have any fruition of him, as their blessedness and reward,
그들은 결코 하나님을 누리며 복됨과 상급을 누릴 수 없다.
2. 하나님의 찾아오심
but by some voluntary condescension on God’s part,
오직 하나님께서 자발적으로 자신을 낮추시는 어떤 방식으로만 가능하다.
3. 하나님이 찾아오시는 방식, 언약
which he hath been pleased to express by way of covenant
하나님은 이를 언약이라는 방식으로 나타내시기를 기뻐하셨다.
