1. 결혼을 파괴하고자 하는 인간의 본성
Although the corruption of man 타락한 인간은
be such as is apt to study arguments unduly 부당하게 논쟁하기 쉬우나
to put asunder those whom God hath joined together in marriage: 결혼을 통해 한 몸이 된 사람들을 나누기 위해
2. 합당한 이혼 사유
yet, 그러나
nothing but adultery, 간통
or such wilful desertion 또는 고의적인 버림은
as can no way be remedied by the Church, or civil magistrate, 교회나 세상의 법도 어찌할 수가 없는데
is cause sufficient of dissolving the bond of marriage: 이런 경우에는 충분한 이혼의 사유가 된다.
3. 공개적이고 절차적으로 행해져야 할 이혼
wherein, a public and orderly course of proceeding is to be observed; 이혼은 (교회법과 국가의 법에 의해) 공개적이고 절차적으로 합당하게 처리되어야 하며
4. 이혼은 결코 당사자의 의지와 판단에 맡겨져서는 안됨.
and the persons concerned in it not left to their own wills, and discretion, in their own case. 당사자들의 의지나 판단에 따라 처리되어서는 안 된다.
